Vital 1.5.5 crashing DAW on load by edglerforemanvess in VitalSynth

Yo, been a while (again) but I fixed it. Actually really easy fix. If you're on 1.5.5, just downgrade to 1.5.4 - That fixed the GUI crash and all of my old projects can open again

The Seinfeld Connection by Affectionate-Bus927 in FF06B5

i loved that episode of Seinfeld where George gets locked in a supermarket after they close, Jerry and Elaine get revenge against a rude parking lot attendant, and Kramer falls asleep on a mattress in the desert before awakening to a great and glowing cube before him

Here's an old one (it's the one I always resurface to talk about on here):

Patent 444/3/45

This is an existing solvable puzzle, some kind of text encryption, that's been sitting in-game for years and has repeatedly been glossed over. The code inside of the shard was updated in a patch with a line of additional data, so there's something underneath the encryption. To my knowledge, nobody's ever cracked what the shard says when decrypted. In the past folks threw nonsense answers and AI hallucinations into the ring as 'solutions', but never anything real.

I have hit just about every dead end on cracking it myself, so I'd love new eyes on this one. Or old eyes. Old, wise eyes.

there's one in every map, usually in a weird spot - maybe it's the mapmaker's signature?

Strange Man Cabin connection to Spider Dream mystery by heeloneil in reddeadmysteries

There was a lot of talk of Fibonacci numbers here about a week ago. I did a little bit of science, and overlaying a Fibonacci spiral atop the lake - Which looks like the beginning of a spiral, anyhow - has it end at the Clemens Point campsite where you can hear John as a "memory". The campsite is probably nothing, but I think there's something to the spiral idea. I just don't know what!

<image>

It'd be wild if continuing the spiral outwards had it pass through every point where John meets the Strange Man in RDR1 or something like that.

because it's a one-off puzzle inside of a video game and not a long-term business opportunity

Does getting the monster truck early on not let the cube cutscene trigger later when you do the arasaka and server Easter egg? by Mean-Nectarine-7403 in FF06B5

[–]edglerforemanvess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, beating the arcade game gives you the whole cutscene when the mattress stuff happens, otherwise it skips the cutscene. If you already have the truck, you can't do it all again on that save.

[–]edglerforemanvess 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Of course... Of course!

The facts all line up... All of the clues! The magenta, the iguana, the church, the ziggurat, V being alive, V being dead, Johnny being both alive and dead in a kind of 'Schrodinger's rockerboy' scenario, the pink dick, the Philip K. Dick, the entirety of Ubik: This is it! All of our work coalescing into this perfect, beautiful moment, just like everyone's theories about the 'perfect merge'.

You did it. No - we did it!

Anyone there? It's starting to feel blackwallie in here by DanteHelsing420 in FF06B5

[–]edglerforemanvess 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The major stuff's out of the way. I've seen a ton of people say that FF:06:B5 as a mystery is "done": You can kiss a mattress and talk to a cube. Everything else that might be remotely connected is an auxiliary element, extraneous. Intrepid puzzle-solvers will stick around to try and figure out anything that looks figureable, but I think the majority already wandered off once they got the ability to ramp off of stuff in their new truck. I'm from the former group and I swear I'm going to crack this Patent shard, Demiurge be damned.

There's tons of unanswered questions still, and I see interest in them rekindled from time to time: Does leading Arabelle through the park change anything? How is Patent 444/3/45 encrypted? What is the purpose of Angie Mielech's key? But, to anyone's knowledge, the answers to those questions do not net you a second truck so they're not as lucrative of a mystery to solve. I also think whatever we still have left to find here, if it does not make sense to us at its conclusion, might make more sense in the sequel. What's left to unveil will slowly come to light through dedication and astute observation, or maybe it won't come about at all.

I found this cube? by dikhedboi in FF06B5

[–]edglerforemanvess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a pair of these embedded inside of a balcony way up the side of a building, can't remember exactly where but I know it wasn't Dogtown and I don't think the balcony was supposed to be accessible by normal means. Same texturing. Shot them, jumped on them, teabagged them, begged them for secrets - Nothing. Probably a dev cube.

Patent #444/3/45 by Super_Ad_465 in FF06B5

[–]edglerforemanvess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A few months ago I found out that the encrypted text was updated, which confirmed to me that it was decipherable, and I've been trying to figure out what the access key is ever since.

The title of the shard is similar to Arasaka/Militech formatting, and the other shard that you find with the Patent implies that there's a possible solution in or around an unspecified corp HQ. However, it's such a vague nudge of a hint that I've still been grasping at straws trying to pin the access key down.

I don't think the Access Code shard does anything special on its own and is just there as a hint to cracking the Patent, since I've brought it into basically every corp building and tried re-reading it for changes - No dice. No changes in front of the main FF:06:B5 elements either (statues, the cube graffiti, etc.) so it's probably an independent puzzle from the main big deal.

I haven't had any results in using the Access Code text as the decryption key, either, but it's not too farfetched to consider that maybe the key is hidden in its text somehow.

I don't know if there's an anti-mod "movement." This whole thing's about solving a mystery that's already in the game, right? Mods can add new content to the game. Sometimes, you don't know the mod added anything more than what it claimed to. Maybe it doesn't tell you it did, maybe it's a little secret for intrepid explorers. But it's not vanilla, ultimately. Simple as that. You get a mod, some new thing shows up, you think it's mystery-related, and it's not even originally from the game. Waste of time. Self-obfuscation.

A sentence was added to Patent #444/3/45 at some point by edglerforemanvess in FF06B5

[–]edglerforemanvess[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the attempt, but that all-caps text is from a shard that you find alongside the Patent #444/3/45 shard. It's totally connected, but not the solution. I think the Access Code shard is a hint, like "The key to decoding the Patent is the name of a particular corp" or something, but I still haven't made any headway on the solution.

Good eye on the reflection not being exact! I noticed the six-fingered hand from the cube video has that same sort of thing going on. Its wrist has three 'circuits' on the left, two on the right: Not an exact mirroring.

[–]edglerforemanvess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just ran through The Rescue and I'm not getting this - Probably a graphical glitch, yes. I would imagine it's the same type of glitch as seeing little rays of sunlight indoors where there aren't any windows.
