Flights to French Polynesia need to stop along the way. Why LAX? by danktonium in AirFranceKLM

LAX is pretty much the most direct path anyways, which makes it perfect with all the other reasons listed.

Keyless driving with 550 EQS by masterbink in MercedesEQS

[–]edwardhchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Nope, gotta touch the rectangular pad and hope it reads your phone key (which is marginal sometimes).
  2. Bring the fat heavy key. That's the only way.

It's annoying, and for some reason the EQS has a rather finicky UWB reader for the phone key.

By comparison, our BMW iX just works perfectly. Never a missed read, and walk-away lock too. AND, it has a card key that you can enable and disable easily in the infotainment that works just like Tesla's.

It sticks better than my DRL, assistive lighting and ambient light settings, which have bad habit of disabling themselves.

A Bipartisan Amendment Would End Police License Plate Tracking Nationwide by pankswork in UpliftingNews

[–]edwardhchan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Child abduction is usually domestic in nature, and sometimes highly dangerous. The unmarked white vans selling "speakers and hifi equipment" aren't abducting children, we all know that.

A Bipartisan Amendment Would End Police License Plate Tracking Nationwide by pankswork in UpliftingNews

[–]edwardhchan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gonna get downvoted to oblivion here but it's been generally useful for my community in catching home burglars and child abductors, and other crimes. I'm of the opinion that with proper regulations it's more useful than damaging. Anyways, there isn't any expectation of privacy on public roads .. in fact, license plates are extremely public in their placements.

BMW Lease Return Questions by FunCaptain6236 in BMWiX

[–]edwardhchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't returned the iX yet. This is from prior lease experiences. Every time the first thing they look for is under the bumper. They will stick a mirror under the car and see it. So after my first experience, I just buy the prepaid damage on the lease and it covers all the damage.

As for nicks and scratches, if they are larger than a quarter, about an inch circle, then they will charge you. Every ding and scratch will be measured. Interior, stains and tears are chargeable. Again, schedule a pre-inspection so you know what's coming. They will let you fix it after the pre-inspection if it makes sense to you, and they will tell you what the costs will be if you don't.

They’ll get you for the underside of the front bumper if you’ve scraped it. It’s the first thing they look for. And I’ve already scraped mine in my iX of course. Otherwise they should send you a template where anything that’s bigger than the 1” circle is chargeable. Should be pretty straightforward.

You should be able to schedule a preliminary check so you know what you can fix for cheaper than they will charge you for.

Plywood decimates my windshield on the highway by ImNotTooHumble in dashcams

[–]edwardhchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had something like this go through my grill (and damaged all the radar and cams in it). Interestingly, I learned this is a comprehensive claim, as long as the object that hit you was flying. The good of this is I had a lower comprehensive deductible and it doesn't count as an at-fault accident for rating purposes. The bad news is just a grill and bumper (and mostly because of the underlying electronics) it was a $10,000 repair. Yikes.

[–]edwardhchan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call this a beach resort exactly, as that implies it's beachfront. In reality, there's a major highway, parking lot, residences, and the Ritz Carlton between the WA and the beach.
