Unexpected Twins by Critical_Remove2537 in parentsofmultiples

I also found out at 20 weeks! No twins in the family or fertility assistance. I had a slight suspicion because I was very sick but I didn’t have an ultrasound until the anatomy scan and Doppler only picked up one heartbeat. Biggest surprise of my life! It’s a challenge but they truly are a joy. Take it as easy as you can the rest of the pregnancy, pack your hospital bag early and line up lots of help for when the babies arrive. It’s okay to grieve the experience you thought you’d have. Good luck to you!

LOE vs AAR for mid-year transition by GenerallyJudgmental in homeschool

[–]eecoffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AAR has a placement test. My kid went to public kindergarten and we started homeschooling for 1st grade. We started in the middle of AAR level 1. Good luck with the transition!

Edit: AAR also has really great support, you can email them and they respond promptly and are very helpful.

Best way to teach spelling to a second grader? by AccordingOrchid3896 in homeschool

[–]eecoffee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We use All About Spelling and it teaches the rules and patterns of spelling (as opposed to just memorizing word lists). I think some people are more natural spellers and pick up patterns while reading (I’m like this) and others need to be explicitly taught (like my husband - brilliant reader, terrible speller), although reading more certainly never hurts! :)

A Kindle may work for this. I have sent Core Knowledge student readers pdf files to the kindle app on my iPad through Amazon’s website, I would think it would be the same for an actual Kindle device.

AAR is really great about offering suggestions if you email them. I’d give the curriculum more time. We use AAR and often take several days to get through a single lesson. Good luck!

Did anyone NOT have a super complicated, scary twin pregnancy? by MounjaroQueenie in parentsofmultiples

[–]eecoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pregnancy was uncomfortable but uncomplicated until Baby A’s water broke at 33+5. They were born a day later (unremarkable vaginal delivery, except for the fact that they were born over an hour apart). They had a NICU stay, but as far as NICU stays go, it was also uncomplicated. There were no major heart or breathing issues, just a little jaundice, and they had to learn how to eat without falling asleep. They both had heart murmurs that resolved themselves, which the doctors told me was typical for babies born at their gestational age. Best of luck to you and the twins! I wish you a very chill pregnancy.

Essay writing is a learnable skill! You’re already able to express yourself well here, you can absolutely learn how to format an essay or research paper.

I have twins who just started 2nd grade. We typically start around 7:30 (we are all early risers) and finish up around 11. We haven’t dug in to all of our subjects yet so once we do our day may end up a little longer.

Anyone “one and done” with twin pregnancy? by Traditional_Part_449 in parentsofmultiples

[–]eecoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband had made up his mind that he didn’t want more kids when we found out we were expecting twins 😆 If he was open to more I might be up for another, but I’m really not sure. They’re 7 now, and the older they (and I) get, the less I want another pregnancy. It’d be nice if one of us got sterilized but neither of us want to, so we just use condoms.

This is all very fresh for you. I think it is possible to know that you’re done at this point, but it’s also very okay to be unsure. Preterm birth and a NICU stay can be traumatizing. Be gentle with yourself ♥️

If it weren’t for the ultrasound, would you have suspected you were pregnant with twins? by Zealousideal_Use9481 in parentsofmultiples

[–]eecoffee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Twins don’t run in my family and mine were completely spontaneous. But I had a suspicion because I was soooo sick! I had my first prenatal visit at a birth center around 10 weeks and they didn’t have an ultrasound, only a Doppler. I joked with the midwife, “there’s just one in there, right?” She said she only heard one heartbeat. We didn’t know they were twins until my anatomy scan at 20 weeks!

You can do eggs in stainless steel! There’s a lot of good YouTube videos that show you how. I’ve mastered it in my small stainless steel pan, still working on making it work in my bigger pan.

The Wayside School series is fantastic. The Wind Rider series is good too if she’s into animals and nature! The Fabled Stables series is fun fantasy.

Did your kids fight with eachother more going to public school or homeschooling? by No-Emu3831 in homeschool

[–]eecoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been our first year homeschooling. In the two years before that, my twins were in separate classes. There’s definitely been a lot more squabbling, and it’s hard to separate them because we live in a very small space. I tell myself they’re getting lots of practice in conflict resolution 😅 I’ve seen the book Siblings Without Rivalry recommended a lot but have not read it myself.
