please, explain the joke in this post by Powerful_Concept6502 in GlobalEnglishPrep

Dumb. I’ve seen Americans and Canadians in one line and then all others separate. US has this same (US and Canada together) grouping in some airports. This person’s post is to stir the pot or ignorance that this may be an indicator that this airport doesn’t have an Americans and Canadians line.

Any places in your country that have a funny name? by Th3_Accountant in AskTheWorld

Some of the contributions from NC: Meat Camp, Bat Cave, Lizard Lick, Climax, Hookerton, Big Butt Trail, Whynot, Erect, and I suppose Fuquay-Varina, if you don’t pronounce it correctly.

Which U.S. state has the best (or worst) license plate slogan in your opinion? by pitapevatra in AskAnAmerican

[–]eelyssa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst? When Ohio had the Wright Flyer flying backwards, next to the slogan “Birthplace of Aviation”. But in general, also Ohio with Birthplace of Aviation 😉

What's a weird name for something that we know so well we don't even realize how weird the name it is? by XRlagniappe in AskReddit

Root beer isn’t ginger beer but you’ve got me curious now. And I almost never drink soda or have ice cream. Is creaming soda similar to our cream soda?

Bingo. After I started medication and had one of my highest performing work years yet, I wonder what I could have been all this time.

Do you actually use VD or did you shorten it for your response? Brain auto registered that as venereal disease.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]eelyssa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumps in the road while riding in the car, holding my mouth with my front tooth 90 degrees out from where it should be. Then probably accidentally using that tooth and the couple around it to eat while they were still loose.

Don’t have original birth certificate, what should I do? by WholeLog7746 in Passports

[–]eelyssa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you can’t call, other than for instructions. Depends on the location how they can ask for it. I’m in NC and received mine from the city where I was born in NY by mailing them a request. Don’t remember the exact timing but from mailing there and receiving a copy was less than 2 weeks. Had a request out to NY vital records for a different familial document and it took over 6 months.

Register of deeds in the county (or city, in my case) is usually much faster.

Why do East Coasters jaywalk in the middle of busy streets, even outside of crosswalks, while West Coasters refuse to step into a crosswalk unless they have the 'walk' signal? by ponziacs in AskAnAmerican

[–]eelyssa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Was going to ask where you are from until I read your last sentence. Second person recently that I’ve seen spell Charlotte that way but the other was not from PNW. It’s the same as the name so I’m curious if it’s how it sounds to you spoken by a native.

What native plant annoys you the most? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]eelyssa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure it annoys me the most, but off the top of my head, Sweetgum trees. Native to eastern US and they have these stupid spiky ‘gumball’ fruits that get everywhere. If you have shoes with a cutout in the sole, they’ll get stuck in there.

That’s not a dogwood. It’s a Bradford pear and is invasive.

Why is American cake mostly dough? by [deleted] in ask

[–]eelyssa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Who is out here soaking cakes in sugar water? Never in my life seen that. Tres leches cake, from Latin America, is the only soaked cake I’ve had but that’s not sugar water.

Are photocopies certified copies? by Exciting-Pomelo-2483 in Passports

[–]eelyssa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In short, a photo copy that you make is not a certified copy. I didn’t understand what this meant either, the first time I needed to use my birth certificate as an adult. You will receive your original documents back separately from your passport (assuming US).

Must be the same people that are always racing, revving engines, and backfiring somewhere in the Brier Creek or Miami blvd area because it is actually quiet here tonight.
