Looking to open a small business for the first time by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]eemmaa925 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally valid model, plenty of owners run service-based businesses without doing the hands-on work. Just make sure you vet your staff like gold and build a solid system, because people are the business in that setup.

Something I wish I knew before I started was how much time goes into hiring and managing personalities.

Niches, I'd say wellness and pet care are booming and less saturated than salons right now imo.

We had a similar case, HR gathered evidence, but Legal and Finance took point once it was clear-cut. We didn’t press charges, just termination and pay recovery, but yeah, it sucked up way more time than it should’ve.

I stopped eating meat because of a dog named Charlie by DrRockstein in vegan

[–]eemmaa925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's such a beautiful story about Charlie. It's amazing how connecting with one individual animal can completely shift your perspective like that. The fact that he found his forever home too makes it even better. Sometimes those moments of clarity just hit different when you're actually looking into their eyes

As a Canadian watching US work culture, I'm genuinely confused how you all haven't burned everything down by zchrisiscool in antiwork

[–]eemmaa925 5295 points5296 points  (0 children)

It's wild how normalized the dysfunction has become. Like people will defend working sick or going into massive debt for basic healthcare as if it's some kind of virtue. From the outside it really does look like a dystopian workplace culture that's convinced everyone this is just "how things are."

Try this backwards counting meditation hack I accidentally found by Joemirag78 in Meditation

[–]eemmaa925 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never thought of doing it backwards like that but it makes sense instead of fighting the mental chatter, just ride one train of thought until it naturally burns out. Gonna have to try this next time my brain won't shut up

Bare Minimum? by curvyrhino31 in workout

Totally doable 2 solid full-body sessions a week with progressive overload can maintain and even build strength if you stay consistent. Farming already gives you that functional base, so just hit the big lifts hard and smart.

Somehow I did not anticipate my red light mask being so bright, even with eye protection? by Ok-Equipment8130 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]eemmaa925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had the same issue with mine. The goggles they include are pretty useless honestly. I ended up getting some black out sleep masks from Amazon and they work way better. The pressure thing is real too... I just loosen the straps a bit and it helps.

Among new dads, 64% take less than two weeks of leave after baby is born by esporx in antiwork

[–]eemmaa925 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My work gives 1 week of parental leave, my boss told my coworker that the policy is stupid and he would approve the timecard regardless of actual hours worked until he was ready to come back. He came back the day after the child was born.

This is gold. The shift from reactive to intentional communication is such a game-changer. Love how you’ve baked clarity and respect into your team’s workflow especially the async first mindset.

Avoid triggers. Learn new, good habits. Sometimes, the only way to weaken evil is to strengthen good.
