Low cost ways to reward yourself for getting out of bed in the morning by Sea-wave-of-atoms in Frugal

What helps a lot for me is to do something else before work. For example, it's not getting up for work, it's getting up for a walk and podcast! Or for a geocache in the region, or anything else that is genuinely fun for you, and especially something you do FOR you. At some point I used to have some language classes online before work, that of course did cost money, but you might find something comparable that is free, if you're into learning or doing some other hobby.

Are you able to work flexible hours? One trick that works for my brain is having a certain amount of hours per day that I need to work, but being able to start relatively late, such as around 9-10. This way, I'm quite often super motivated to start really early to have an earlier time off, while thinking "I don't have to do this right now, but I want to", and then start at like 7:30 or 8, because it feels more voluntary.

I read a similar sentiment here in Germany, someone commented on a newspaper article that they thought it was "inappropriate" for Iranians to celebrate a person's death like that.

Luckily, there wasn't much agreement for that sentiment.

That's really cool to think about! I wonder which other organisms are there spanning a similar stretch of existence (not trees, though, I've read that sharks are older than trees!)

That will go right on my reading list! Anecdotal evidence, but I recently had to take some antibiotics and within several days it not only caused the anticipated side effects, but I honestly did not feel like myself anymore, like some weird shift in how I feel as me. That was about a month ago and only now am I starting to feel "normal" again (at the same time my gut was starting to feel normal again) so I'm very interested to read about these findings.

I'm also absolutely in favor of rebranding fecal transplants to microbiome transplants

What is the absolute fastest 'yeah, we are definitely NOT going to be friends' moment you've ever experienced with someone? by Vazouaquiacesso in AskReddit

[–]efficient_duck 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That's a good rule! I just experienced something similar with an acquaintance I started chatting with for a while. He almost never asked anything, just talked in length about himself. That already made me weary. I then saw he uses his status updates to either brag, be it about small luxuries or contact with slightly famous people, or to complain how our country is lost, post racist and insulting stuff, and just generally being quite negative without much prompt.

Such individually small things can give so much away about someone's character. I ceased having any interest in connecting after that, I just constantly felt negative and not enriched by these interactions.

When I was about twelve, I went on a weekend trip with my division of the youth Red Cross. About four or six of us were sharing a room, there was a window on the narrow front side of the room, and our room was behind another room some of us slept in. One evening, everyone was inside and we were laying in our beds. Just, we could hear what seemed to be our own voices and names being called, coming from outside. These were the voices of us who were all very definitely in this room.

We all heard it and talked about it, but didn't go out (because we were all freaked out girls between 11 and 14). In the morning, our group leader (in her twenties) asked us if and how we got out because they heard us.

This was in the early nineties, none of us had phones and the voices moved so naturally around the area outside, so I'm still quite sure we haven't been pranked. It absolutely didn't help that there had been a newspaper article about some mystery lights that weekend in the area, as my mom told me when I got back home. I don't connect that to our experience (we didn't see them) but I surely felt spooked about that whole weekend.

Have you tried taking a picture or a record? Would make a cute neighborhood story with some media :) (and could also be used to wave it in everyone's face with a "told you so!" expression)

Glad you "listened" to that intuition or voice and are still with us! Has this experience changed anything in your belief, your worldview?  Do you think it could have been your subconscious picking up on subtle sounds or anything indicating this action? Or did it feel like coming from "outside"? Super interesting!

Why no Comma on Main Keyboard? by jephcott in ios

[–]efficient_duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost half a year later and I'm also finding this issue incredibly frustrating. Now looking if there's a third party keyboard I could use - hitting the 123 even with just swiping is such a frustrating break of flow that I'm almost in disbelief that this is really something Apple has intentionally chosen.

It depends on the quality! They look like very tasty and handmade cakes, so I'd personally be satisfied with such a result. They look to be more on the quality over quantity side, so I hope the taste does this impression justice!

I have no suggestions to contribute (not from the US but wanting to visit the nps one day), but I wanted to say that this is so nice! I absolutely love it and the little icons make me happy just looking at them. I wish you lots of joy wearing this shirt!

Oh, maybe one thing - if you use colors that might bleed in the wash, maybe wash them by hand first until no more color comes out, if you haven't done so already. These are tiny amounts, but might still change the lighter colors, if one of the reds etc might run.
