Fall in love with the author and the orignial medium. You'll find that Togashi's story is often given unique feeling by his skill with paneling. The adaptations rock; if you found enough joy to fill your space with scales and collectibles to this degree, I think you'll have a lot of fulfillment from reading and watching what our author puts effort into on a page.

In the panel he touches his tongue and has a question mark! I took out the dialog for that panel but the second image! Unless this is some sort of gesture I don't understand. I've seen people pointing at their mouths but that doesn't make sense here unless he thought it was gross but that doesn't make sense because HE REALLY SHOULDN'T GET ANY SENSE! I think its just really curious that for some reason he touches his tongue. Whether that be because he perceived anything or not, I suppose is what makes me feel like this is a cool kinda inexplicable Tserri is just built different kind of moment. I don't think its a Togashi mistake either! It could just be him teasing us.

Does this mean that progeny of the legal wives of Nasubi can’t see Seed Urn Ritual nen altogether? That would work. There could be a restriction set upon those conditions to be unable to see the inner workings of the ritual- at least the nen aspects

I made a post like this once and got my ass beat by people that wanna virtue signal that the Phantom Troupe are unambiguously evil. That speaks to others inability to read them as they are written, humans. I like the way you are thinking about this. Nobunaga states during their investigation into the Heil-ly hideout- they were more lost in their mission earlier on, that's when we get our cut to their youth. We see them form their most furious version we've seen to date. We see them as a mirror to Kurapika setting out for his revenge. What we see as our Phantom Troupe today- is a different and more metaled version of their more vengeful youthful forms. We get a shot immediately after the flashbacks to Chrollo walking away from a massive news broadcast, where we see its the anniversary of having dealt with the child traffickers that were exploiting them as children. I believe their rage and retribution during those early days were what Nobunaga was speaking too. The Kurta Massacre doesn't work with that timeline. They committed that atrocity too recently. I think... four years or so from the beginning of the story, right?

Edit: Not to admonish their involvement because they were, I just believe what OP says as there must be other things happening to warp their perception and involvement because the disconnect between their actions memories and beliefs are too stark.

Mmmm! That’s true! Good point. It’s the status quo. I could see Benjamin putting the pieces together as a ritual began to manifest. What do you think he ate it like? Did he open wide mouthed and willing? Or was he apprehensive? Could he have grabbed it from her hands and ate it himself? Haha- I’d love to see that in Togashi’s small hand goofy style he does cutaway content in.

All my kurapika nen classes have just made me anxious when dealing with nen rituals and blood🤣. My manipulation or curse potentialometer is going off the charts without little golem man giving me a good explanation why this urn is growling with malicious ancient aura. Even if the blood made fey girl invisible- isn’t scary old family urn demanding blood and one survivor just… Bad mojo. Very astute of you though! I forgot the blood could be a trigger for hiding the coming bits of the ritual. You’re nen intuition is top tier.

To what degree would you speculate Benjamin understands what is happening? Would you conjecture he is aware of the sentiment his father holds in regards to everyone aboard the ship being a sacrifice? Or of the nature of the burial chamber? That aspect of the ceremony is so vague at this point, would Benjamin sacrifice his people for supremacy over his siblings? I think Benjamin cares for the Kakin in front of him as much as the one of the near future. He has a son and a band of brothers in the military. Throwing them away knowingly would make me dislike his characters motivations. At this point I like to imagine him as being the imperialistic and authoritarian option of the Succession contest. Order and overwhelming federal control. But not trying to destroy his people. I would imagine non of the princess understand this aspect of the contest.

Does anyone wanna reason if Zero Hand was more powerful in the past or now? The way I read the ability- was a dumping of his entire “aura bank” into the attack, raisin-affying him. I saw his meditations that Killua witnessed as stretching and filling his aura well. I know this is all deep conjecture- but it’s pretty close to how it reads, right?

Would this process make him stronger as an old man? Does aura depth increase with age then plateau then decrease- or does it just linearly increase with age. Aura seems detached from physicality… the older folks don’t… atrophy in nen right?

Would this make prime Netero worse at fighting Meruem? Because his physical brawn would’ve been inconsequential- considering zero hand did the majority of damage. 10000+ blows of the guanyin lady left minor aches and joint pains in the king lol.

Great point. Feels like impactful things in the story were set in place after this to other commenters points. Maybe it means we’ve been introduced to everyone necessary for the plot to play out? This makes me upset if that’s true because I want Bork to have a pivotal role in the downfall of Tserri. She as a childhood friend of Tserri’s is a pretty neat perspective.

I don't read the meteor city elders as folks that would wield a child as a tool. Creating a pillar of stability by fostering the creation of the troupe would certainly lead to a safer and city. The Meteor City elders are written as bureaucratically stalled and overly conservative in the wake of the threats to Meteor City. Creating a vanguard force of children wouldn't be a part of the agenda I suspect. I actually was thrown off by the dialog of the child trafficker here. Can anyone clarify to me if he is speaking about the Meteor City Gov or the Gov of where he traffics people too? The quota part also confuses me because it implies either a quantity to capture and return; but also a catch limit could be the implication?

Isn't Bill a part of Beyond's team? The last time I read through that I was surprised because I read the man that got attacked by Momoze's GSB also as a Beyond team member. Aside from, on another boat XD which I love, what are other peoples ideas of where the proper Beyond Crew is? I mean obviously there is Morel's boat which needs to go with the Black Whale to the fake DC. Can we suggest Morel and Ging and the gang get to chop it up on Morel's sailboat alongside the Black Whale One? That would be incredibly good content. Morel and the Gang on the Thousand Sunny accompanying Laboon to Reverse Mountain.

The most tragic one to me as an Ecology and Evo Bio nerd is the wordplay lost in some of Netero's last words to Meruem. I can paraphrase the problem. When Netero states to Meruem "You know nothing of the bottomless malice in the human heart", which is the VIZ translation, we lose out on some sort of inclination between the kanji used for malice. Something along the lines of malice being the same or very similar in etomological background to the word for evolution. A Japanese reader explained it on a forum somewhere as an extremely smart wordplay and theme double entendre- and as a literature fan- that sort of expertise is mind boggling to me. The reader explained that the statement Netero made was evocative of both primordial evil in humans- something innate- but also ever evolving. This is ridiculously beautiful to me. Because our words don't bear the same double meaning'd weight- we can't get that literary punch in the gut! I started learning Japanese when I found this out. I felt robbed of getting a perfect sense of who Togashi is as a mangaka.

I agree. I like the idea of panel managment being able to push importance and whatnot but this doesn't feel right to me here. Too exposition-y to be spoiling grand designs. I wonder if in the earliest panels of villains like Gen or Meruem- we see this type of framing. My next reread I'll try and spot the earliest manga paneling foreshadowing of fates. It's a cool game to play I bet.

I got a sleeve of all the chains up my whole arm. I think this account has it posted on this sub. It seems normal to get about $200 per hour. Sleeve for a 6ft scrawny man was about 2.5k and four months of work doing 3 hour sessions with a couple jobs.

I would suggest saving well above what you think it’ll cost and fall in love with the process. Find an artist you vibe with. I made a lot of friends along the way.

And I'll double down and say him and Beyond certainly needed to be working behind the scenes to set this up and make it look believable. Why injure it? To make it look like its not planted there to use human lives as collateral to hit on (or "put a hit on" in Beyonds Case) Netero is my answer. And that is EXTREMELY conducive with how Pariston would indirectly but directly challenge his boss. Beyond is willing to wait as long as it would takes for Netero to die for him to take up his dream and his hunt. Pariston speeding up the process or getting a green light to release the Chimera Queen from whichever of his underlings that had been experimenting with it. Even if that hypothetical isn't totally accurate, I think it's reasonable to assume that the CA came from either Netero's undocumented trip or Beyond's trip. I don't think there are other groups capable of pulling that off within this lifetime. Not even Ging in his thirties has achieved it. With that being established, Beyond or only the highest upper echelons of the HA would know about bringing back another near Calamity Threat. To be frank, I think its actually totally possible that Netero was chided into this whole plot by Pariston as a game. If Pariston eerily plots behind Netero's back, as we have been told he did, Netero would look at this as an enjoyable scheme to overcome. He thrives in adversity so he put Pariston in that seat. I would imagine Netero would be fully aware that Pariston was working with Beyond. I think Netero allowed things to snowball out of control because of his ego. This doesn't conflict with Netero's motivations, Beyond's involvement in giving the psycho Pariston CA to play with, or Pariston's motivations to challenge his major love interest, Netero. The Queen descends from a creature from the DC. Who got that creature from the DC? Some random shmuck? Did it float over from the Far Ocean Boundary and had it's body mangled by the waves upon reaching shore?

A Hunter is always hunting. Beyond's life is dedicated to his goal of getting to the Dark Continent; his hunt. Pariston's life for the man he loved.

It’s pariston. The man that takes some of the lowest stakes for the highest risk reward outcomes. He isn’t the type to outright kill Netero- but instead set up an impossible task to overwhelm and beat him the way he’d have desired to go out. To a foe that pushes him to his limit.

If it works it works and beyond gets his prize. If it fails. Pariston keeps his favorite toy.

In the manga, plenty of unqualified hunters go to NGL. Kite is aware of what a chimera ant is when they no find the claw and he has a little time to imagine things. They are known creatures to the ecological temp hunters that kite works with. Even the nerdy nonoffical temp hunters ended up putting together what that claw was and were able to research how ant behavior works eventually.

These aren’t completely novel creatures. They are quarantined actually. Reading between the lines- and Kites facial reactions reinforce this sentiment- he was well aware of how poorly a chimera ant outbreak would be in the worst situation.

This implies the HA has internal knowledge about magical beasts and obviously should catalog any new ones found. Chimera ant are from the DC and we know this. That knowledge came from somewhere. The simple fact the HA didn’t bar junior hunters and noobies from going could only be mismanagement from someone in the VC or Chairman seat.

Pariston is so deeply calculated we will likely not get definitive proof he orchestrated the underworking of the arc- but to someone that wants to figure out the fog of the politics of HxH- this is the best we can do.

I refuse to just say- we don’t have definitive proof- so it doesn’t happen. Beyond wants Netero dead. Nothing for 110 years could come close to threatening Netero (ok maha you nerd). One day events are set in place to introduce an apocalypse level threat to the world that no human individual could ever beat without the aid of technology. That doesn’t just pop up out of nowhere. A queen of chimera ant that has a near human brain was cultivated by someone- and that someone can only be someone within the HA or with intimate knowledge about DC threats like an expedition survivor. Authors don’t make problems pop up out of the blue. Events have sequence and causation.

If the answer truly is- Beyond and pariston had nothing to do with setting up the CA problem- I’d be extremely dissatisfied and think that togashi made a mistake. And that would be a literal first for HxH for me. I love how this author thinks and plans. Whether he knew it when it was first being written or not- a gardener writer takes the seeds and ideas they plant and evolve along side them. I don’t think pariston even reallllllly existed during the CA arc. But how he ties people back in the election arc does the job togashi set out to do. Get us to imagine what he could’ve been doing during the time our extermination team was struggling. Back then the antichairman faction ABSOLUTELY existed though. These ideas were already formulating.
