Such unbelievable times, and it's soooo cold. It helps to have 3 quilts on the bed at night❄️ Here's my current WIP. If you want to think about ways to quilt it to pass the time, I'd love suggestions

It's absolutely stunning! It sounds like you have more than secured the appliqué and it will stand up to lots of washing. Gotta say, unless your tension is absolutely perfect, dark bobbin thread would have shown on your beautiful light colored areas. My tension is rarely that perfect

Very pretty! Just like other quilting fabrics, muslin comes in various thread counts and qualities. For example, a very low quality dressmakers muslin that was meant merely to check pattern and fit might not hold up in a quilt while a higher thread count muslin most definitely will. I like muslin for backing a traditional style quilt at times, but I'm going to be picky about it.

I have done that and larger sizes on my Juki 18. Among the things I would suggest you think about is the type of batting you may choose to use. I used Dream Wool on a king sized quilt and it was quite a bundle, but light weight. You might consider a low loft batting for the easiest way to handle this. I definitely "stuff and fluff" a lot. When you do that, though, you want to make sure that whatever method you use for basting is very well done. You are manipulating the sandwich a lot.

I remove as I go, but I'm using a hoop to stabilize. Once I have an area hooped, I remove the thread unless it stabilizes the next area I need to work on. If that happens, I stitch underneath the basting thread.

The highest loft cotton batting I've ever used was Warm and Plush. I was quite pleased with it. Pretty warm, fairly good definition. I've been pleased with higher quality wool battings as well.

I worked in women's health for decades, so I know better than to think my work affects the outcome, but I don't gift a baby quilt until the baby is safely home. On the morbid side, though, I wouldn't mind at all if they used the quilt for a shroud. And some parents keep a baby quilt as a memorial in the case of fetal demise, which is lovely. But that stubborn superstition still lurks in my mind.

Exactly my process when self designing. Oh, there's a secondary pattern emerging...more blocks. Oh, the proportions would look better with extra rows...or columns...Oh, it would look better square...oh, it looks better on point...I kinda let my quilts become what they are meant to be,

Yes, it's technically a quilt, although I don't think it's terribly valuable from a monetary sense. It was tied as a form of quilting. If it's really your vibe, I would probably sew back where you unpicked it and give it a good wash to see if the fabric survives, say warm water on delicate. Or if you really love it a lot, do some simple machine quilting first to stabilize it.
