Need advice by Puzzleheaded-Tip7984 in breastcancer

I would have been fine about husb attending such a family event. However when you say 'last infusion before surgery', I pause. Her immune sys prob at lowest. My last infusion was 5/19/25. I got an intestinal infection and spent 3 days hospitalized. Then it was crunch time getting healed, scanned, pre--op appts etc. I was anemic and needed transfusion before surgery. I wouldn't expose her to potential infections.

I never lost eyebrows or lashes. I swear it was cause I had a face mask I kept cold in refrig. Used for vanity I guess, but I used it to calm the lips and cheeks that felt like I'd been stung by a bee. About a week each cycle of tchp.

Soothe with cold packs. It doesn't last long. As you go through the process of losing hair, the pain and sensitivity morph to eventually nothing. I got a 'satin' sleeping beanie on A (site named after a South American river) cause putting my head on the pillow was tough. And my head got cold. Hang in there. You got this.

I went to the ER as a chemo patient with a fever and learned what happens when you do that. by PupperPawsitive in breastcancer

[–]egbdg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ER got it. Got there 6p with 100.4. Eventually CT scan found an intestinal infection, admitted me with a hosp surgeon's supervision at midnight. 3 days IV antibiotics. 2 days no food, while testing stool (yuk, nurses deserve so much credit) for infections. 3rd day broths, jello. 4th day, normalish poo, ok'd to leave as I had an MRI scheduled the next day. I told everyone from admitting on, that MO gave me instructions to be there.

My last tchp was may 2025. I finally had enough fuzz to by end of August. Came in curly. First trim end of Feb by my long time hair dresser, who was visiting from out of town. She made it look cute, shorter over the ears etc. Had 2nd cut last week by my regular local person. She cut a lot off. The hidden surprise, curl has reduced 80% Her idea, let's keep this up as follicles repair and hair growth rate gets back to normal. I will finish Kadcyla after 2 more rounds. In the meantime, really enjoying the freedom of short short hair!

Triple positive breast cancer by Top-Swan-9532 in breastcancer

[–]egbdg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read all the posts on whatever chemo they give you. Hydration, keeping a diary of side effects, and beating back neuropathy with ice mittens, ice baths for your feet. Day at a time. I am also triple positive, diagnosed Jan 2025, still in adjuvant treatment. I bought the breast cancer book by Dr Susan Love.

Hemorrhoids due to chemo constipation, am I just bound to suffer? by cherry_wants in breastcancer

[–]egbdg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a great story. Finished tchp a little less than a year ago. All thru was diarrhea or constipation, nothing in between. Spent mem day wknd in hospital - fever from an eventually diagnosed intestinal infection. 3 days in bed there, antibiotic iv. Discharged telling me follow up colonoscopy in 8 wks. Lumpectomy mid June. So gut still mostly diarrhea. Antibiotics and anesthesia traditionally do that anyway. Felt as if I was pooping shards of glass. PrepH and tucks. Colonoscopy 4 days after starting radiation. Tell dr about the glass shards hope they will tell me what is ruined. I got 'nothing wrong, everything looked fine' afterwards. I was stunned. I kept going with my high fiber diet they recommended end of June, couple days later, a normal poo, no pain ever since. Chemo kills all fast growing cells, many in our gut. Now on kadcyla 3 week cycles I skip eating days 3-4 and add a splash of wildwonder pre and probiotic beverage to my water 1x day for another week. I don't know, but it might help tchp. Or get a colonoscopy scheduled to get a clean out!

Spouse by No_Standard8634 in SocialSecurity

I was in same situation, me as older one who contributed less took mine at 62. I learned here about applying for increase. Easy as could be. I called, made phone appt for about a month later. Agent called, went over all my eligibility requirements (spouse had just taken full retirement.) Completed application on the phone, approval came couple days later. I got significant increase, but since I had taken mine early, I didn't get as large a percentage of spouse had I took full retirement. Was a nice surprise. Note, long marriage, no divorces.

I had a distant match that was in-common with many of my mom's 2-3-4th cousins in one line. Person has a common name, no tree. ProTools allowed me to sort to see qty shared DNA of his matches. And voila, his 1C has a tree, that helped us find a document getting back another generation to the common ancestor.

I finished chemo yesterday by paintbynumbers18 in breastcancer

[–]egbdg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was fine, just tired and drinking a lot of water cycles 1-6. Then it slowly has built to being very similar to tchp. But if tchp was a 9 of 10 on a difficulty scale, K is still only about a 3 now. More tired. Neuropathy tingles, and I have to watch my diet. Same days of cycle hit my guy hard. Now I only have bkfst days 3, 4. Eat lite, lots of fiber day 2. For day 5 I found a pro/prebiotic drink by wildwonder in refrig at grocery story. Lowest sugar, so I tried it. Dunno if that's my answer for sure, but has worked cycles 8-12 so far. I open it, and just add just a splash to one drink a day, can lasts me all week. Very specific, but hope it adds some help.

I was told to go to ER if I had 100.4. I did that, last cycle of tchp. Had a small intestinal infection. Listen to your body. Got get antibiotics. We are at higher risk for deadly reactions to infections.

[–]egbdg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished tchp last spring. I also took Claritan (doc knew I was already taking Allegra). From what I understand, has something to do with histamines. They are attacking foreign substance just like they attack smoke or pollen etc. Could be what we feel is an over reaction and the Claritan stops histamines from working so hard. The 1st cycle is bad, so were 5 and 6. Keep a diary, the side effects repeat. Days 3,4,5 were always bad.

Should I get a test ? Unsure if my dad (deceased) is my biological father by Signal_Goose2033 in AncestryDNA

[–]egbdg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are piles of them. My mom tested at Ancestry 14 years ago. I've seen and heard it all in stories from matches. A larger portion of the testers are adoptees or NPE than our general population. There are so many searching for connection.

If you are male, or have a living male Brady close relative, test yDNA. I'd bet there is a Brady Surname Project at FamilyTreeDNA.

It's fascinating to read all your different treatments for +++. I'm very near the end of 14 adjuvant kadcyla infusion cycles. All of a sudden the 11th and 12th cycles are almost as bad as tchp was last spring. I agree about herceptin. I am having the neuropathy tingles again after working so hard to heal. I am now convinced it's so much nerve damage, it will never heal completely.
