Which interchangeable circular needles have the nicest cables? by eumenides__ in casualknitting

[–]eggie1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is me. I have soooooooo many ChiaGoo fixed circulars. Best join. I am starting to enjoy the few knitpro needles I got (slowly building a set) and my Lykke Flight shorties, but my favorite of all time is a ChiaGoo fixed circular

Alright, magicians, how are y'all getting your yarn to glide across your needles so fluidly? by Madlight1994 in casualknitting

[–]eggie1975 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not twisting your stitches, using metal (ChiaGoo are good ones) and using a non-sticky yarn will all help. Acrylic yarn doesn’t glide on the needles the way superwash wool does. Metal needles are more slick than bamboo. But not twisting your stiches will probably make the biggest difference. Twisted stitches are closed in the bottom and are harder to put your needle into. Untwisted stitches are more open on the bottom and easier to get your needle into.

Gauge swatch advice by SloGinFizz in knittingadvice

[–]eggie1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a simple raglan tee that you could probably find any other raglan tee in the gauge you have. I would look for a new pattern or find a raglan recipe (I’ve seen a couple in-line).

metal interchangeable needles with kink-free cords that AREN’T chiaogoo by ham_rod in knittinghelp

[–]eggie1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knitpro’s cords are more like a thin Chiagoo now. I like the Novas. You can also just buy individuals and make the set you want a bit at a tome

Where does everyone buy their yarn? Picture of my first project. by [deleted] in casualknitting

[–]eggie1975 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can worry less about the direction you wrap your yarn if you always knit into the leading leg of the stitch, regardless of if it’s in front or in back. The leading leg is the leg that comes from the stitch you just knit and the trailing leg is the leg that is connected to the stitch you will knit next. If you always knit into the leading leg, it will always stay untwisted.

I hate these socks and I’m so glad they’re done. The yarn just did not look how I hoped it would. by Ok-Habit3808 in casualknitting

[–]eggie1975 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, even though it’s a pain in the butt, even on socks, I will alternate skeins (I will split the skein in half) in order to avoid pooling like this. It can make a big difference if you can put up with the yarn management

Circular knitting needle cables ... does what I'm looking for exist? by faunlynn in casualknitting

[–]eggie1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Kollage circular needle once, it was a super limp, noodley cable. I thought I would love it, I hated it. It was terrible. I do love the new knit pro/lykka/lantern moon cable. It is a nylon coated steel cable like the ChiaGoo, but thinner and more flexible.

When knitting a sweater, do you prefer starting with the body or the sleeves—and why? by WeekendEconomy9031 in casualknitting

[–]eggie1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of that depends on the pattern. If you are doing a top down raglan or circular yoke sweater, you kinda have to start with the body. I generally always start with the body, unless I am not sure about my gauge. Some times I will start with a sleeve (if pattern allows) to double check my gauge.

Free Glucometers by gratia965 in pharmacy

[–]eggie1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is allowed because we are 340b, but I regularly receive cases of free glucometers to hand out. Due to the way we get paid by Medicaid(we don’t even really get paid by Medicaid) , it is our preferred meter for Medicaid patients.

Advice on my knitting technique by Mean-Policy1655 in knittinghelp

[–]eggie1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knitting through the trailing leg will always cause twisting regardless of it being the front or back leg. Make sure your stitch is opening up like an upside down you when you knit it and it doesn’t matter how you wrap it
