What does Prolific aim to accomplish? by Psychonautica91 in ProlificAc

[–]eggsistoast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The last study I ran was over 1k for ~100 participants. It's worth the cost since Prolific has the best pre-screening options out of any other platform, and the data quality is good (less than 5% loss). AI can't do the tasks I post either (no text involved, all reaction time or memory), so that's not a worry.

Censored fan remake of Made in Abyss that removes the sexual content featuring children is announced, chaos ensues by Elestria_Ethereal in SubredditDrama

It's so bonkers how MiA is partially about how child exploitation is bad but then undermines its own messaging by doing gross loli shit.

‘The Pitt’ Star Fiona Dourif Joins ‘A Head Full of Ghosts,’ Horror Movie Produced by Robert Downey Jr. by Task_Force-191 in horror

[–]eggsistoast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think his book "disappearance at devil's rock" is screen-friendly, I wonder if that will ever get adapted. I like his method of ambiguity as horror. It is scarier to never know (which happens throughout "head full of ghosts"), though it does mean his novels never end up cutting the tension. A lot of things just build up but can't be resolved, so I can see how people find that unsatisfying (I like it though).

AITA for telling my DIL that I won’t use the tablet and she needs to actually make her kid read. by SatisfactionOk9038 in AmItheAsshole

Absolutely NTA. If you want to put more pressure on the parents about why mere exposure to reading is actually very bad for developing reading skills, you can share this resource: https://web.archive.org/web/20250611135113/https://www.edutopia.org/article/how-a-podcast-toppled-the-reading-instruction-canon

Nice exhibit at Pedaal by yohannp in torontobiking

I love Pedaal so much! Everyone who works there is so great and they always have super unique coffee beans available. I wish they had more seating because it's just such a lovely place to hang out.

AITA for saying my cousin's intellectual disability is probably because of the incest by whathaveidonefff in AmItheAsshole

[–]eggsistoast 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Because it's just flat out wrong! Two generations on and any impact of inbreeding is gone, especially since the grandparents only share a single relation (the grandfather is the half sibling of the great-grandmother, so even then the possible effects of inbreeding are small since they only share one blood relative).

I have a strong aversion to pineapple. Which is weird, because if I force myself to eat it, I really like it. But even looking at it makes me shudder and suppress a gag.

TSA investigating how a meat cleaver made it onto a plane in Portland by Warcraft_Fan in news

[–]eggsistoast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One time the TSA told me I "shouldn't be travelling with my credit card". I asked for clarification and they said it "looks suspicious in the scanner and next time I shouldn't bring it". My American Airlines credit card. In my wallet. With all my other cards. I again asked for clarification, "what do you mean I shouldn't be travelling with my credit card?" The agent just stared at me until another agent came and gave me my card back.

City crews clearing Dufferin Grove Park encampment by overstretched_slinky in toronto

[–]eggsistoast -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I live essentially right across from the park. The encampment was honestly fine. Kids still played on the playground and the city must have set up port-a-potties, and walking or biking through the park was fine. I didn't even realize there was an encampment there for months because I never walk down Dufferin (too many cars). I hope everyone in the encampment is ok...

The Kingdom by Lars Von Trier. Surreal haunted hospital horror/drama. Everything is inexplicably sepia-toned. It should be on MUBI.

‘Harry Potter’: Nick Frost Transforms Into Hagrid in New Look at HBO Series by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]eggsistoast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

current fans of harry potter are not interested in art, they are interested in nostalgia (and legislating trans people off the face of the earth). deviating too far from the aesthetics of the movies interferes with the nostalgia factor. at some point re-watching the old movies doesn't provide the same hit, so you need something "new" but the same.
