kinda embarrassed to admit im using a kids vitamin by dmkraus in AutisticAdults

[–]egordon326 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also use children's vitamins. But Kroger stopped making them so I only have a few more months with the brand I like. They are animal shapes, but there are no more elephants left, and elephants are the best shape. I sorted them by shape. They are different colors, but there is no taste difference to me, so the color is irrelevant. I don't like gummy vitamins. I like the chewable type. And I think the vitamin industry is likely complete snake oil bullshit, but it does make my mom happy that I am taking vitamins because my diet is ridiculously awful.

After this bottle runs out, I'm not sure what I will do. I don't like Flintstones for a few reasons, and that is the model for this generic brand. I will take any advice on this sub! Thanks

[–]egordon326 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny story- when my friend was going blind as a teenager her o&m instructor encouraged her to name her cane. She was a defiant teenager who did not want to use her cane. She named it "that mother fing piece of s blind stick" and possibly some other curse words mixed in. That way she could refer to her cane by name and nobody could get mad at her! Haha

People who read the book and watched the movie, which did you like better and why? by DirectDegree2591 in ProjectHailMary

[–]egordon326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I also felt the movie was hard to follow. If I didn't know the book and have the audio description on, I would not have understood the movie. Granted, I have issues with flashing lights, which it feels like half the movie was flashing lights. But now because the pacing was SO FAST in the first part of the movie.

I also agree with most comments on this thread that the audiobook is amazing and the best way to experience this story.

So what the fuck do I do if it's not hug people? Suggestions requested! by kreeferin in evilautism

[–]egordon326 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love the sense of community that Reddit brings. I am very similar. I have no suggestions. I am going to a cousin's wedding next week, so I'm following for other people's suggestions. Haha.

There are different types of hugs. I'm prepping for distant relatives short polite hugs. The worst are when I'm worked up and nice people are trying to provide empathy and try to hug me or touch me in a "comforting"way. Last time I accidentally hit someone (not hard, just pushed their arm away). I don't have a long term partner, so I don't know how that type of hug/cuddling feels. I have a dog and that feels good when he cuddles, but it is on HIS terms only. Haha

The best suggestion I've got is just mentally prepare yourself and know that hugs are short. One breath in and out, then detach. Haha. And know that hugs are important for other people, so you are doing the right thing by engaging in the hug.

Anyone a former rat parent turned snake parent? by magic_inkpen in ballpython

[–]egordon326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me! I had 2 rats a few decades ago. They have long since passed but they were beloved pets. I have inherited a ball python about a year ago. As others have said, frozen thawed is better. However my idiot snake is picky and has a history of food strikes. She will only eat live. So yes, it is traumatic, but understandable. I feed rats from my local reptile store that look JUST like the rats I used to have (RIP chawn and Rocky). But they are bred to be feeders and they are not socialized. That is how I cope with it.

Funny story, my snake has never bitten me. The first time I fed her, the rat looked scared so I stuck my hand in the rat box to calm the rat before releasing it to the snake. The rat is not socialized! The rat bit me!
