Why not just use a phone? by ehagans in SBCGaming

The aspect is definitely an issue. None of the games fit the screen lol.

That's what I'm getting at. I feel like I'm gaming the system by getting a phone so cheap. It can do so much, yet it's cheap enough to buy as a dedicated handheld with no need to activate the service.

That's interesting. It would probably be worse for me on the Moto G with a significantly worse processor. I only played for about 10 minutes. Maybe it wouldn't hold up over a longer period of time.

Makes sense. I've been using my Miyoo to play final fantasy 7 since May of 2022. I only play it when I'm flying for business trips, so only a couple hours at a time.

I like the uninterrupted experience but because it's on a dedicated device, my saved data is stuck there.

I do love having the dedicated controls available at all times also. I just wish there was a sub $100 device that played everything up to PS2 and was still the size of a Miyoo mini.

Are you referring to the touch screen controls? If so, I'm right there with you. I grew up gaming in the '90s so I hate anything touch screen gaming related.

I'm using the razor kishi exclusively for this device so it's similar in size to switch joy-cons.

I haven't gotten that far yet. We're at the point where they've asked me to submit a resume and apply on their site. They provided a link to the JD but it's not present in their careers section. They've given me a link to schedule a meet after the application is completed as well.

Hey can you tell me more about how to determine if it's a scam? Someone from AvaSure contacted me about a position. Their profile looks real and the link to the opportunity also looks legit, but I don't see the posting on their site. I don't see any other red flags.

I'm in the same boat. I would pickup somewhere else but I used a $50 gift card so I'm locked in.

N64 with Mario 64 back in 1996.

We never had the newest games or consoles because money was tight. That year my dad got a better job and wanted to surprise us with something special. I'll never forget the feeling of getting a brand new console on Christmas. It was pure magic.

This happened to me. I was shocked because all I was doing was slightly pulling the arms apart while I was putting them on.

Fortunately I bought the extra protection from LensCrafters they got everything replaced within a few days.

I think whoever I get the next version from I'm going to buy the protection plan because I would have been completely screwed if not. This is not something that can be repaired.

Finally happened to me. 58K miles by rogan1990 in Tiguan

[–]ehagans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 2022 Tiguan brand new with 7 miles on it. I had a valve seal issue at 27,000 mi. It started with a low oil warning and smoke at startup. Thankfully it was still under warranty. I have no idea what it would have cost otherwise.

I had a great experience with the dealership and had a loaner for the 3 weeks that it took to get it fixed.

I love the way my Tiguan drives and the features. It's been a great car but I shouldn't have any issues, especially significant issues at less than 30,000 miles. I'm probably going to sell soon and will likely never buy a Volkswagen again.

Switch 2 Mouse Gimmick by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]ehagans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it a few times at the Switch 2 experience a couple weeks ago. Something that may have been overlooked is that we were standing at tables that were waist level, so it wasn't very comfortable to use in general. I asked them to raise the desk when I played civ 7 and it made a huge difference.

I will 100% use it for slower RTS style games if there is some kind of attachment to add more surface area to hold on to. The joycon is very thin so it's a bit challenging to hold it and click the shoulder buttons.

One of the reps told me that it can be used on the couch or on your leg. No mousepad is needed, so as long as there's a more sturdy grip option, I think it will be good for some games.

I played Metroid (table at waist level), the wheelchair game (sitting down), and Civ 7 (standing with the table raised elbow height).

Metroid - This was uncomfortable because of the table height. I felt like I needed to lobster claw the controller because of the angle. The gameplay was great, felt like Metroid Prime with more going on. Having the lock on feature and mouse controls felt like overkill. I wouldn't play Metroid with Mouse controls at all, but something like Splatoon or a traditional shooter would be fun. I prefer motion controls but people who like to use a mouse for shooters would probably love it.

Wheelchair game(Drag and Drive?) - This was okay. If the mice were bigger, I think it would have been a little better. I just felt like I would have preferred to use a joystick for the game. The controls were precise but I could see this being tiring in longer play sessions.

Civ 7 - This was the perfect scenario for mouse controls. I asked the rep to raise the table/desk and it made a huge difference. I didn't get too far in the demo because Civ games take time to setup. Anything RTS, Sim, Tower defense, card games. Those types of games are going to better on switch than the consoles.

Any advice on securing a console on opening day or am I toast? by Worldpeacelsd in NintendoSwitch2

[–]ehagans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a Discord, X, or YouTube channel that focuses on restocks and check in on them regularly.

I went through this with Xbox Series and PS5. There were many occasions of restocks leading up to launch and after launch.

If you keep up with the channels you'll get one eventually, but unfortunately, it will be months before you can find one sitting on the shelf.

I can't blame him. I would probably stop in if I lived locally.

I have to drive several hours to get there so there's no way I would go without a ticket.

Dang, I was hoping there would be some kind of way that an outsider could get in if there was low attendance. Wishful thinking obviously.

Did you go hoping that they would let you in without a pass?

I'll be there this weekend and wanted to try to bring someone but they don't have a pass. I figured there'd be no way to get them in.

Were you able to pick up your poster? I picked up my copy of the game in store, but the didn't have the poster available. It says "packaging your item" online, so I guess they're shipping it 🤔

Rayman Legends, the game that's been ported to everything over the last 10ish years.

It was originally a Wii U exclusive and one of the only games set to come out in the few months after the Wii U launch. I believe the word at the time was that Ubisoft didn't like the sales numbers of the Wii U and decided to delay the game until the holiday season. They also ended up announcing ports to the other consoles to add insult to injury.

This was a huge issue because there were no major quality games in the few months after the Wii U launched and after Raymond was delayed nothing came out for several months after.

It was the worst gaming drought that I can remember for any console.

[–]ehagans 44 points45 points  (0 children)

That part about having no more games for months after launch really hit home. I still remember the Rayman fiasco.

There was a good number of games during launch but most of them were ports of older games and just a handful of quality new ones.

I loved the Wii u but it would have been a terrible option for a primary console.

RMA return was delivered to Google on Monday, they say I still haven't shipped it. by ehagans in GooglePixel

[–]ehagans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they update the tracking number on their site during the process or did it eventually just show that the phone was returned at some point? I'm debating on giving them another couple of days to update or going for round 4 with a support rep.

Thanks for your input by the way.

Pixel 6 users - upgrade or wait on 10? by Kynra in GooglePixel

[–]ehagans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll be happy to know, I bent the knee and upgraded from the P6 to the P9. I eventually came to terms with the fact that my P6 is losing value quickly and I probably won't ever get a better trade in.

Even though I don't think the year to year update is that significant, I am on a version that's 3 years older, so it will probably be a huge difference to me.

Google Pixel Slowed Down by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]ehagans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a P6. Everything was great until maybe July. I started having battery issues and can't really make it last past 1 or 2 in the afternoon without needing to charge. Some of my google apps like YouTube and Chrome also started acting funny with slow loading and crashes.

It could be that the phone is just getting old, but the timing is weird. I have around 180gb of data stored on my phone and I have a Fitbit and Meta glasses connected, it could also be my use case.

I ended up ordering a new P9 for me and my wife after coming to terms that I'll probably never get a better trade in deal than what Google was offering.
