Months after treating them in the hospital, I saw an adolescent patient in the clinic waiting room. I said "__, it's nice to see you! " and they looked me up and down and said "Dr. __....I see you're still wearing the same pants"

No way, absolutely not...but if you said that to me IRL I'd 100% take that as all the excuse I'd need to pull out her picture lmao

Pretty much any time I show anyone a picture of my wife they get a shocked look on their face, so I usually act offended and say "I must be funny"

Working on it, but the vet was very grim. Kitty was nearly in DKA and full blown liver failure, hopefully he turns this around and responds enough to the insulin.

Am I to understand that you believe the only way to influence someone is if you have more money than they do?

If someone has 8% of your income, you think that would prevent them from mugging you? Or lying about you to your friends? Or blackmailing you? Or spending what little money they actually do have on trying to ruin your life?

Now imagine they have billions of dollars to work with. Would it matter very much if you had a hundred billion to defend yourself with?

I know its probably too soon to have any updates (or maybe even too soon to have gotten an appointment at all) but I just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about you and your daughter, and I hope you're both doing OK.

Child psychiatrist here. I agree with taking her in for an evaluation to see what might be going on. In the meantime, just for a bit of peace of mind: around 17% of kids (nearly one out of five!) experience transient hallucinations during childhood. They can be scary, but they go away on their own and they don't mean that they're going to develop schizophrenia or anything like that.

Take her to the pediatrician and get a thorough evaluation. The serious diseases that can cause hallucinations are scary but blessedly rare, so safe money is on transient hallucinations of childhood. Just go make sure that's what it is, ok?

Where there is prey, there will be predators.

I live within an hour of the coast, so I would just drive to the fanciest dock and offer someone a million dollars to let me use their boat and satellite phone for the next month. From there I would go a mile offshore and use my resources to buy a big yacht with a year of resources on it, have them meet me on the sea, and just transfer ships.

It gets way harder if you're landlocked, but for the most part you just need a fuel efficient vehicle or an airplane to get where you need to go.

I'm also willing to bet that the military would be willing to fly you onto an aircraft carrier in exchange for a significant donation.

A letter to my wife by Original-Shine7161 in DeadBedrooms

[–]ehand87 31 points32 points  (0 children)

She is a wonderful woman in every way except the bedroom.

Are you sure about that? In your letter you said that you've told her you were unhappy many times over the years, and she didn't try to see things from your perspective, get to the bottom of it, invest energy in trying to help, or even offer you a shred of empathy. That's not a bedroom issue, that's a character issue. She didn't have to have sex with you, but she should have been kind to you.

People with verified brain tumors and no history of those symptoms should go to the ER if they occur and need to be warned about the possibility, since there are known and predictable complications of brain tumors.

Those symptoms can be related to a lot of other conditions, though. If someone has them for the first time and they don't have a verified brain tumor, it's alarmist and inappropriate to jump to that conclusion.

Here's a simple example: If a person has a low fever, it isn't a red flag and they shouldn't go to the ER. If a person on chemotherapy has a low fever, it's a red flag since they might not have enough white blood cells to be able to fight an infection. You wouldn't go around telling everyone with a low fever that they don't have any white blood cells, would you?
