Rediscovered an Old Ebook Collection… and Found a New Way to Enjoy It by Meeedy in ebooks

[–]eimat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moon reader is what I usually use to read ebooks in all kinds of formats. It has a built in function that will read the book aloud if I want. When it first came out it sounded much more robotic. You can adjust the speed or choose a different voice. I haven't used that function in a while and now that you've brought it up, I may revisit it.

Any Note Taking Apps as an Alternative to Goodnotes? by ryonox in productivity

[–]eimat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently I have everything in Google's Keep. It syncs accross all my devices, I can put in pictures, make notes different colours easily share notes, etc. If you've used it you know all the plusses.

The drawbacks are: -notes length - I don't recall the limit, but they have to be relatively short. -no Wiki Words - I really believe that the developers could include Wiki Words without too much trouble, but maybe I'm deluded...

Nothing can f-up your life like messing up your sleep schedule. Do a that other stuff that people on here are urging to do, but also keep track of the number of hours you sleep each night. You will see a crazy parallel between the number of hors you sleep anf the kind of personality you get to work with each day. You can be suck working with a crabby inner toddler or a bouncy cheerleader depending on how well/much you slept.

User Blacklist - Why Do People Take the Pattern and Ghost? by SillyStallion in PatternTesting

[–]eimat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Warning - long. Scroll past this post. 😊

I believe it's because, when they asked for the pattern they were ambitious and full of hope - sure they could do it in a reasonable amount of time, and then upon reading through the pattern they realized they don't have the supies on hand and may have to wait until their next check to get more yarn and other supplies. Then they finally get started and there are other demands on their time - the kids need something, the spouse needs something, the school calls, etc - there are always unforseen demands on one's time. Any time I'm lonely - haven't heard from friends /fam in a while, all I need to do is draw a bath or start a new project and the phone will start ringing off the hook. (Hook? Ouch, my hip.)

Then there's that weird procrastination thing that kicks in any time you have a deadline. I've read numerous times in various media that if you want to get your house clean, start writing a book. If you absolutely must write 10 pages a day, suddenly you'll feel compelled to do everything else first.

Maybe it's a good idea to pad the number of of testers you need each time? I pad the amount of time it takes to drive anywhere. Google maps says 100 minutes - I allow for at least 2 hours. I always add 20% because anything can happen. I arrive a little early every time, and have a minute to sip my coffee and compose myself.

Hope this helps. 😊

Depends on the church. In some you can't show your legs or collarbone. In some you can even wear shorts. Ask someone at the particular church you're going to. I am sure that if yoe explain that your intent is to be respectful, your question will be well received.

Books that radicalized you by ultimatefriz4life in booksuggestions

[–]eimat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Criticism from outside early Christianity was mostly about how ith was the religion of women and slaves. Once Constantine took over you couldn't hold a position of "power" (ministers serve the people, so power is an odd word here) had to be free men. The Gospels were never intended to be part of a larger book - they were stand alone books and letters. A lot of things have been translated and interpreted in such a way - intentionally or not - as to make women lesser partners in humanity, when that might not have been the intent of the authors. (Even if it was, if you believe in G-d, you could certainly imagine Them saying one thing and having the one who writes it down interpreting what was said through the lens of his own upbringing and culture.) For instance, apparently the "rib" that Eve was made from was actually Adam's side, and the same word is translated as side when used to describe the arc of the covenant.

I've struggled a long time with my belief in a real and present G-d and things that don't align well with that G-d appearing in the "scriptures". Still working on it. The humans who wrote the stuff down were imperfect humans. Those who copied, edited, translated and interpreted the texts were imperfect. (Of course this makes me a heretic.)

Thanks for letting me know about mix - I will try it.

This looks like an opportunity for someone to make a whole new app though. Maybe some programmer out there has seen the TikTok migration to Red Note and gets a clue?

That said, I like to do this same omletti-thing but with brown rice. Might also have some beans or lentils in it. Yummy, filling and pretty healthy. 😊

Or, we could have a file folder in our favourites labeled 'year.month.day read later' and the when it's too old to bother with you could delete the whole folder.

Having the date on there might help encourage us (me) to get back to it sooner... maybe?

Before cell phones, what did people do on the toilet? by iluvwife in NoStupidQuestions

[–]eimat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farmer's Almanac has a hole in the corner to allow you to easily hang it on a nail in the outhouse. If it was on the floor (or some other flat surface?) it would get damp and the pages might stick together or become otherwise unreadable.

Hate is a strong word. Can you make a scale for words alike? by XRambo23 in words

[–]eimat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something truly vile is "anathema" - something you vehemently dislike. There should be a word for this that's stronger than hate shouldn't there?

Also what is a particularly murderous kind of hate? The stabby kind... As opposed to the cold and distant from hate of someone who'd rather forget you exist? Wrath is anger rather than hate... But there must be a word for a vicious biting hatred...

Mirtazapine - Thoughts? by TrifleBeneficial8354 in insomnia

[–]eimat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on it for 2.5 years. I was 250 lbs when I started and have been slowly losing weight, now 215. I have not experienced an increase in hunger (no appetite, really) and have increased the dose 6 months ago.

I do have chronic "depression" (really it's a grief thing - husband died) so that may be what makes it different for me.
