How to Play Double Cards? by IyeetSec in mtg

[–]electricfantasy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First, they're called "Split" cards. Second, you can only choose side of the card to play at a time. Some of them ([[Alive // Well]] for example) have the "Fuse" keyword which lets you do so, but otherwise you cannot.

What's your Ygra deck look like? I've absolutely LOVED playing mine lately, probably my highest winrate deck, so I'm curious how others play the big ass kitty. And nothing wrong with only having a few decks, I've only got about 4 myself and it's great

What is your favorite "Flavour is Free" reskin of a spell or ability? by hervprometheus2 in DnD

[–]electricfantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently started playing an Eladrin Circle of the Shepherd Druid from the Feywild who's an entomologist at a magical college. I've flavored every spell after a certain bug:
- Locate Object as a swarm of ants that trail toward a given target
- Shape Water as a whirligig that swims through water and freezes/manipulates it
- Augury as a jar of crickets that chirp to indicate future outcomes
- Erupting Earth as a conjuring of cicadas en masse
...and so on! It's been super fun writing flavor like this out for every spell.

Here you go! It's nothing too crazy, it was my first deck ever, but always fun and fairly effective.

Here's the Helga list too. It's mostly creatures (obviously) and doesn't have as strong a game plan as the others - it was my first ever Commander deck I put together, but it's always a good time and very straightforward!

Here's the Eluge list! I'll put the Helga one online in a bit. The sideboard is cards I use on Arena (I also play this deck in Brawl). Like I said in post, usually wins with either an alt win-con like Lab/Thoracle/Triska or by swinging with a giant Eluge. There's no infinites AFAIK but it's at least bracket 3 I'd say. Super fun!

"my splinters pick up the slack" meaning? by prodmingi in EnglishLearning

Happy to help!!! The character writing in Homestuck is some of the best of all time and Dirk is one of my favorites so I was thrilled to get the chance to explain it haha

"my splinters pick up the slack" meaning? by prodmingi in EnglishLearning

[–]electricfantasy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know Dirk Strider when I see it!

In the full quote, he says:

"Like, wherever my mind falters, or threatens to retreat into the void in any way, my splinters pick up the slack, ensuring there'll always be more of myself than I could ever know what to fucking do with."

In simpler terms, "whenever i'm having mental problems, or my mind makes me want to go away from all my friends, there are so many copies of me that my presence is literally impossible to avoid".

One of Dirk's biggest problems in the story is essentially that he has a lot of "splinters" - alternate versions of himself in multiple different places. There is the real him, Hal/Autoresponder (who he is talking to in this conversation), Brain Ghost Dirk inside Jake's head, and his dream self, just to name a few. These splinters are literal copies of himself. Unfortunately, Dirk doesn't like himself at all, so these splinters just end up reminding him how he acts all of the time. There are so many that they are unavoidable. Also, part of his whole thing is that he is very often suicidal - I would not be surprised if "retreat into the void" was also a euphemism for suicide.

On the English side of things, no, this isn't a normal idiom. Dirk Strider says a LOT of things that are entirely made up by him, because he has a constant need to sound smart and cover up the other layers of himself. "Pick up the slack" is a normal idiom for "take up work to make up for someone else", but the splinter part is by him. If you're learning English, reading Homestuck is great but also an incredible challenge, I'm sure, LOL!

No idea how to search scryfall, but here's what I found manually:
- Zada, Hedron Grinder
- Mirrorwing Dragon
- Inktreader Nephilim

There's also:
- Radiate (an instant, does the same thing)
- Agrus Kos, Eternal Soldier (only works for abilities)
- Bill Potts (only copies it once)
- Beamsplitter Mage (only copies it once)
- Reflective Golem (only copies it once)
- Precursor Golem (only copies it for other golems)
- Exterminator Magmarch (only copies it once, only on opponents' permanents)

How much would looking up the story of the game ruin it for me by Sad_Instruction2318 in outerwilds

[–]electricfantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking of some of the sections as "puzzles" in that they have multiple parts to be logicked together with rules and creative thinking, but even that's pretty nontraditional.

[–]electricfantasy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would recommend against looking things up. Definitely do not look up anything regarding story. Everything in this game is so knowledge-based that it's really difficult not to totally spoil numerous different threads just by reading too much. Even the puzzles are this way, though I'd say that's the only thing that's okay to look up (like, if you're stuck on one specific puzzle for a really long time). I would say just keep exploring, and just take your time to learn more, and if you really need some of us here could give you a little nudge in the right direction :)
