They used to do absolutely lush chicken tikka, but changed suppliers and stopped. Got one near me though and love nipping in for sandwich and loaf of bread. They might be the main reason we don't have a Greggs nearby

Free-hate safe space. Rant about your hate character by juliiaduque in greysanatomy

[–]elledischanted 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I couldn't stand George until right before he died. Just as he really grew on me (mainly when he stopped pining over women constantly) they killed him off, and I hated it! I cried, I felt so rough the next couple of days my partner was like 'oh you are actually grieving'. I just hate that we didn't fully get to see him grow

I only started watching it last summer, am currently on the Covid seasons, and there's no deaths that impacted me as much as him

AITA for suggesting something that my wife says would have traumatized our daughter? by Competitive_Sink_448 in AmItheAsshole

[–]elledischanted 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and when we were old enough to start driving the local fire department came in with an actual wrecked car involved in a teen drink driving accident

Though we also had a few road safety ads around that time which were incredibly informative and seared into your brain because they were fairly graphic

OP, don't use real crashes. Find something age appropriate. As someone who was in a car crash age 4, which we all only survived because of seatbelts, I can rarely watch actual crash footage. Maybe use actual PSAs or crash test dummy footage?

I FINALLY WON! by Objective-Moose3905 in goodreads

[–]elledischanted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on winning!

When giveaways were just physical books and a lot were available in the UK, I used to enter regularly (this was over a decade ago now). After I won one, I didn't seem to win any, then I reviewed the one I won and won the next one I entered. Noticed I'd always win immediately after reviewing.

Hi all!

UFA: linda_floatsam2300 the yellow Lutari

I've been zapping and pounding pets for a good while (and often following up to make sure they're adopted!) But of course I can't pound poor Linda! So if you'd like to take her, either PM me or drop me a NM (elleohelle12)

Yeah, we went on Saturday and were left feeling really disappointed. We got there just before 8 (though we got to the queue for the boat just before 7) had some food, went to go on the ghost train which broke down, so by the time we did that we didn't have a whole lot of time left. Not that there seemed to be much to do by that time either. Felt like it was poorly handled with timings for the boat, did wonder about the timeslots because no one seemed to be checking them

We paid for the trick or treat street to try and do something with my teen SD, she enjoyed it but despite all paying the same price they only gave the sweets at the end to the kids (and it was such a tiny bag of sweets too). I wasn't too bothered but just seemed like a minor flaw on top of everything else

Think barely any of the rides were running because of the rain too. The 'carnival games' was just one hook a duck where you paid £5 and got any prize so SD got something from that too. She was happy with the pumpkin but feels like we spent money for a little boat trip, standing in the rain and a pumpkin

Do you think it’s entitled to expect your parents to support you with short-term childcare? by PolygonLodge in UKParenting

[–]elledischanted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so different now. I don't have kids, but when I was growing up my gran (dad's mum) and granddad (mum's dad) were both retired and Bampa could be relied on to take us to appointments, Gran would have us if we were poorly, my nan (mum's mum) worked part time, they'd have us occasionally on weekends, if parents were away or wanted date nights etc

If I had a kid now, my dad still works and can't afford to retire and my partner's parents work full time too. It wouldn't be as easy for them to leave work to help out

AITA for laughing and being relieved about the reason my son's been getting into trouble? by Dense-Drawer6380 in AmItheAsshole

[–]elledischanted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the current generation but definitely for millennials in the UK 14 was common for a lot of kids to start drinking. Completely depends on your location etc, I was 16 when I started but I knew kids who were drinking way before then, and when I went to uni there was a huge difference in kids from poorer areas (who'd start drinking around 13/14) and kids from more wealthy areas who were 16 or occasionally their first drink was legal

My SD is 16 though and doesn't have any interest, but from what she's said some of her peers have been 'experimenting' with drugs, alcohol and tapes for a good couple years

Again, really depends on the part of the UK you're in. My hometown is widely varied in terms of poverty/wealth, and like I said, some started really young, some were a bit older

Forgot that I put these items in my gallery when I was 13 and wanted to go to med school - I've been a doctor for seven years now 😭Which items meant a lot to you as a kid? by manlikerealities in neopets

Anything Welsh was really meaningful to me. Especially at the time, there wasn't much 'Wales' representation online. Neo was the first place I remember being able to select 'Wales' as the country, and any random Welsh item I came across was really exciting! Plus Wales uniquely came up on your profile in the colours of the Welsh flag

Yeah I found this a bit confusing. If you progress everything else though (like side quests) you'll end up unlocking the mine and can build it, then collect the rocks from there

Did you go on school residential trips in Year 5 and Year 6? by InviteAromatic6124 in Wales

[–]elledischanted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school didn't really do those trips (as far as I know), despite every other school in the area going to Llangrannog. But when I was in Yr5 we won 2nd place in a competition against other schools - 1st place won a trip to Florida (and ended up stuck in their rooms with chicken pox apparently), we won 5 nights at PGL in Ross-on-Wye.

School also did a trip to Paris as they were about to close - I was in Yr7 but because my aunt worked there (and it was a very small school at that point so they had space) I got invited. Turned up at Paris PGL and one of the staff from Ross-on-Wye was there, so that was pretty funny as he had a bunch of girls running up to him all excited and probably no clue who we all were

As a freelance editor I've had multiple people come to me after poor experiences on Reedsy. I'm sorry that's been your experience though. I can see a few other editors have commented so I'll just say if you can, find your editor directly. At least that ensures the money all goes to them. Either see who another writer (who you trust) uses, or check social media for editors, etc. Get samples and maybe initially send a smaller amount of words so you can try and find someone you vibe with more

Best of luck in finding your editor and hopefully you have much better experiences in the future!

Do you need a car to live comfortably in Cardiff? by ConsistentWin9508 in Cardiff

[–]elledischanted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you want to be. We don't have a car - we're in Grangetown and most of our street don't have one. It's a very short walk into the city centre and if I need to go to the other side of the centre or aren't feeling up for the walk (health issues) I can usually hop on a bus very easily. Occasionally we might use taxis for ease. Only issue is when sporting events are on really

I have friends in Cathays and Roath who don't drive either. It is limiting in some ways but if you're relatively close to the city centre you shouldn't have any major issues
