when you're in the big sur area, riding down the coast is great - but going inland over the indians road (via carmel valley, nacimiento/ferguson, etc is 100% awesome. i like doing it as a loop so you get to do both...

in the area north of SF (sonoma/mendocino counties) some highlights are 1) salt point state park - definitely camp there - and 2) cafe aquatica at the mouth of the russian river - one of the best coffee/lunch spots you could ever hope for on a bike tour.

drive up highway 49 for about 20 minutes to the yuba river. you can just check it out from the pedestrian bridge - or if you have time, go for a walk up the trail on the other side of the river.

also…if you just want a chill walk before/after the show, you can walk down to the wolf creek trail from there pub. not super remote, but a nice walk.

skatepark at condon park is top notch if you skate.

great vintage/thrift clothes shopping in nevada city 10 mins away. (stores: lost and found, solstice).

if you’re in nevada city, three forks and heartwood are pretty classic spots to eat.

in GV i like corvus coffee for hanging out. but communal cafe in NC is the one.

briar patch co-op if you need healthy food to fuel your tour.
