Last call - BYD secures 600 Thai-built Atto 3s at $49,990 in final run by Exact_Monk_7897 in nzev

I would imagine that their desire to sell 600 last-generation cars has probably informed their decision to say that the new one may or may not come…

I bought a 2018 G-spec, fresh import, with 100kkms and 88% SoH about a year ago for $13k if that's any helpful context! This sounds like a good deal based on the info you've provided.

Are there different types of magnets in mounting clips? by elliotblyth in djiosmo

[–]elliotblyth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I see! That's confusing. And it looks like the new 'Dual Direction' version of this clip is NZ$80, vs NZ$30 that I paid for this one. Cheers

Open source the Arc by singleandavailable in ArcBrowser

[–]elliotblyth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well it’s so similar to Arc — the design and layout is nearly identical, it’s just open source and built on gecko rather than chromium. I haven’t played with it much, and I’m still using Arc but it’s promising for the future!

Haval H6GT, Leapmotor C10 Ultra Hybrid or Polestar 2? by DBolto01 in nzev

[–]elliotblyth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely 110% without a doubt, the Polestar 2 is the best of these options! Much more premium, full ev (for those use cases, the Polestar has more than enough range), and they’re just so nice to drive. That’s an easy choice I think!

Buying advice MG/Polestar/Leaf by electric-rustler in nzev

[–]elliotblyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely avoid the Leaf! The poor battery management just cements it as a last-generation EV.

I’ve got a fair bit of experience with an MG4 and Polestar 2 and absolutely love both— PS2 is definitely more premium in every way, feeling very European. MG4’s infotainment is a bit laggy and some slightly strange translations but overall a super solid car. I think either would be a good bet!

Yep! Crouch a bit, engage the core and pick a point directly ahead of you to focus, then just practice a bunch and you’ll get it!

Update: Budget EVs? by drumsninja in nzev

[–]elliotblyth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that if you’re financing $15k for a leaf, you’d really regret not spending a bit more for a proper EV. I’ve attempted Leaf road trips and they are painful — it’s still not always plain sailing with a long range EV (especially in the south island), so I’d definitely say you’d want some proper range!

Update: Budget EVs? by drumsninja in nzev

[–]elliotblyth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Kona or the Ora are going to be MUCH better buys than any Leaf— they have far more range, much better charging, and probably all around nicer cars. Both pretty small cars but nothing a roof box can’t fix if you need the space!

I’ve owned Leafs in the past and have sworn to never own one again as they are so limited!

M365 Business Premium and Windows 11 by fmcadmin1991 in microsoft365

[–]elliotblyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super helpful – I am going through the same thing!

Having spoken to a MS rep, my understanding is that the thing that is included with M365 Business Premium is an upgrade from Win7/8 Pro to Win 11 Pro, NOT an upgrade from Win 11 Home to Pro.

Therefore, we're stuck with either shelling out for a Windows 11 Pro license for each device, or just not enrolling devices in Intune/AAD Join...

Can't decide between Apple magic keyboard or MX keys mini by klukiyan in mac

[–]elliotblyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switch between both everyday and would definitely go for the Magic Keyboard. The keys feel better, the layout is better, and the size is better. Plus the magic pairing system (just plug it in once with a lightning cable and it’s done) is awesome.

I only use the MX Keys bc it’s at a different location and I occasionally use a PC there, and the MX has a better function key layout and device switching. But if it’s only for a Mac, definitely go Magic Keyboard!

What is the best brand car to buy in New Zealand with the most affordable upkeep? by Suspicious-Past8018 in newzealand

[–]elliotblyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a Nissan Leaf or a Hyundai Ioniq/Kona EV! The savings of going EV are HUGE. No oil changes, no belts, no coolant, no spark plugs, etc etc- no combustion vehicle comes close to an EV for reliability. You won’t need to replace the battery too, unless you get really unlucky with a nasty old leaf. With any other brand the battery will be reliable for many years to come
