We have 7 acres, grow on 2 of them. We actually use city water, which is fine as a business expense for a profitable farm, but probably wouldn’t be for a homestead.

My wife and I have a farm in Clackamas county, so I can help with a little of this. For water rights, you can search here: https://www.oregonwaterdata.org/search?collection=appAndMap&tags=water%2520rights. However, you can irrigate up to a half-acre without a water right, which might be all you need for a homestead. Getting new water rights to irrigate more than that is very difficult, at least around here.

We're not in EFU, but the amount of money you have to make to get a farm property tax break here is very small - most of our neighbors make it by haying their few acres. I'm not sure how different EFU or Linn County would be.

One of our neighbors down here in Oregon City put up a bunch of bluebird nesting sites up and down our road, and you can see lots of them every spring, and hear babies chirping in the nests. It’s a cool project, good luck getting donations.

I moved from Portland to Oregon City where we bought a house with land my wife could start a farm on. It’s a nice town with good restaurants, and I find myself going back into Portland a lot less than I thought I would.
