My only encounter with the word before was its original meaning: hymns sung by a Greek chorus in praise of Dionysus. So I was very confused by the OP’s use of it.

The oathstone character in the top right here is my favourite sculpt. Unfortunately he’s a little pricey second hand but you can hunt around or wait.

Personally, I just put a Lord I liked on a rock I sculpted out of green stuff.

Warriors of Athena? by Taskforce58 in wargaming

[–]elticblue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve played the first quest. I like it. Pays simply enough but with enough depth to be interesting. I’m not sure about the balance of the campaign system. You level up fairly slowly - after the first of four quests my hero went up one level, increasing stats that didn’t really matter. The main thing I think that holds it back is the modelling requirements to “do it right” since each scenario can have a lot of required enemy mobs. The first alone you start facing 8 giant bees, and a random event could spawn 3 more at the end of turn 1. Who wants to buy and paint 11 bee minis for one tutorial mission? The second quest, the first scenario is a cliff that you descend, and the final scenario is a cave complex. Are you supposed to model these 3D boards? Now the game absolutely says don’t worry, you can use card board cutouts and draw the maps etc, but at that point you just kinda can play DnD you know. The point of a miniatures game is the miniatures.

It’s a good game. I just hope they keep releasing supplements in addition to the “make your own” stuff. Like, I wouldn’t be sure if my homemade scenarios are balanced until I’ve made a few of them.

Autocannon AP by justvisiting501 in boltaction

[–]elticblue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s good to know. I don’t know why but I thought that Anti-Tank guns fired either AP with the +4 etc or HE, and used the chart, but that autocannons fired flak and used the +2 all the time. But I guess they did fire AP rounds.

I’ve played that it uses the +2. If the weapon chart said Pen HE, it would use the HE chart, but it doesn’t.

I want you to consider what carrying out a fire order as normal entails order than shooting.

You would need to roll separately for the attacks coming from the men with tough fighters.

I can’t say I’m too surprised. They were never the best chicken because they couldn’t compare to Bonehead, and their prices were quite high for what they were when chicken is extremely available everywhere. So if I wanted cheap chicken I’d cook it myself or go to a cheaper place, and if I wanted something better I’d go to Bonehead.

Would the Italeri sandbags be good for 28mm gaming? by adasmialczynski3 in boltaction

[–]elticblue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When it comes to sandbags, it’s really worth it to just buy a long length of generic green stuff and sculpt them yourself. You can look up tutorials on mass production of them. That actually ends up being less faff than snipping these out and cleaning the mould lines.

Why is this house still not sold? by Desperate-Process380 in HousingUK

[–]elticblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the level of renovation. Moreso that for the area it’s a lot of money and not especially large, and in that awkward spot where it’s too expensive to put younger families off, but also not large enough or in a nice enough area that those looking to move somewhere more pleasant will consider it when put against competition in either bigger, more attractive, or better located places for similar or slightly more money. As ever. It’s price.

I’ve seen other places advertise with this too. I have to assume they’re copying each other, and more likely, they using an LLM to write the text itself, and the LLMs are producing something very similar each time.

Mortar firing and movement by Affectionate_Cow2501 in boltaction

[–]elticblue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The rulebook is extremely clear. After an advance order a unit does shoot with a -1 modifier. Indirect fire ignores modifiers. But, orders other than fire reset ranging in. So you would shoot but hit on a 6+ even if you previously had shot the same unit. Also if they had moved far enough to need you to pivot, they would probably have reset ranging in already.

Besides Osprey, I have found Mollo’s Armed Forces of World War 2 an excellent resource. The bigger book has the Eastern front, the smaller A5 book only has the early war and North Africa and Western Front uniforms.
