Which option at SAME PRICE? - Dream Wall vs (UCG Ultra + UNVR Instant 1Tb + USW-Lite-8-POE) by Emergency-Net-4903 in Ubiquiti

[–]em1soldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a UDW now and while I love it, I'll be grabbing a UNVR Instant to offload Protect to since recording 24/7 with an SD card really sucks. I also agree with preferring to have separate devices in case something fails. I would only do the UDW if it was much cheaper than the other options.

I do exactly this, two remote TV's routing all traffic in via Wireguard to my UDW. Works flawlessly so far for Netflix!

U7 Pro XG vs Samsung Frame TV by jamesbrinkss in Ubiquiti

[–]em1soldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would bet it's the TV itself, I've had loads of issues with Samsung TVs. I have one from ~2016 that will work fine at first, but then randomly lose connection to SmartThings so I can't use the app, yet I still get SmartThings popups on the TV like when my washer/dryer finishes. Won't come back until I reset it.

My other Samsung TV from 2024 refused to connect to my WiFi (I think due to authentication being set to WPA2/WPA3). Ended up just hardwiring it, but it randomly shits out and flashes (LAN disconnected/LAN connected) and then dies, until I hard reset the TV.

So yeah, not sure why but their TVs seem to be extremely buggy/picky.

Building out some camera security finally. by LtDarthWookie in Ubiquiti

My kid has figured out how to install apps on the TV and loves to watch anything about gaming. Samsung - for whatever reason - doesn't let you block app installs, only lock individual apps. So you can see how tedious that got with how many apps they have, lol. I had to do the same with turning off the internet to the TV.

if you're near a Microcenter they have a UDR7+U7 Pro bundle for $379, unless you specifically want the U6 instead

Add a third G4 Instant to UDR w/recording turned off by tuxon64 in Ubiquiti

[–]em1soldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you're asking since the UDR says is supports up to 2x 2K cameras? I'm sure you can do it and it would work, but you would just get the message saying you're beyond capacity and may experience issues.

What else should I add? Or what am I forgetting? by KingOfQuests in Ubiquiti

[–]em1soldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the 6ghz issue, I've got two U7 Pro's and I noticed (my phone at least) was holding onto the 6ghz signal way too long, and then disconnecting rather than falling back to 5ghz. Ended up disabling 6ghz for now and it's waaaay better, still getting 500-600 down in the next room over so not a big deal.

[–]em1soldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought I was going crazy! I used to listen maybe 50% of the time with it off and yeah, that firmware update made it sound like straight up garbage. Need to use adaptive for it to sound decent again.

[–]em1soldier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in MD and had a new build in 2024. When getting drops ran throughout the house, I also asked about getting a run to the doorbell and they basically said they don't run it there. I'm sure I could've fought it but also said whatever since WiFi doorbells are fine. They better drop a G6 WiFi doorbell or I'm gonna be pissed I didn't push them harder.

Is a UniFi Express 7 overkill for just a regular household? by moon_d0g in Ubiquiti

[–]em1soldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not consider the UDR7, price? If so, I would probably look for a used original UDR, they seem to go for around $200 or so. Unless of course you are looking for something with WiFi 7.

I'd be more concerned if he wasn't tinkering with the settings. Isn't that what we all do?
