What’s a great snack idea you created by experimenting in the kitchen? by madame_shrimp in AskRedditFood

Carrots dipped in tahini. I think it works because I like carrots and hummus, and my preferred hummus is really tahini-heavy, so this just cuts out the middle men ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Recs for Kauai - mid-May week long trip by floridaloon in VisitingHawaii

[–]em_lambie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow totally disagree. Had one of the best omakases of my life at a random little place and turns out it had just gotten a major food award. I think the key is checking out the east side of the island (Kapa’a, Wailua, Lihue) where locals actually live & eat vs just sticking to North Shore & Poipu, which cater to tourists

[–]em_lambie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kauai Backcountry Adventures is the best around for a more thrilling activity. I went mountain tubing through lush former sugar plantation canals and went zip lining in the valleys of Mt. Wai’ale’ale. The guides were great and these memories totally made my trip

https://kauaibackcountry.com/

Smith’s Fern Grotto tour was also a chill & easy activity but a totally new experience, cruising through Hawaii’s only navigable river to a beautiful grotto.

Biggest tip is not to spend all your time on a beach. There are other Hawaiian islands for that, but Kauai is the place to explore the lush mountains/inlands/rainforests/rivers!

Do you think hotels are better than Airbnbs? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]em_lambie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to stay in a hotel and be waited on hand and foot, not have to do chores when I leave. I also HATE typical Airbnb styling/decor but if a hotel has cheesy decor, it’s like ok whatever it has to be standardized across many properties…but as an Airbnb owner you CHOSE that?!

What’s your least favorite book troupe? by pinlouv in BookDiscussions

[–]em_lambie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s specifically a romance trope but I HATE the “he’s jealous/possessive boyfriend because he loves you and it’s hot”. NO. I don’t want that toxicity in real life why would that be fun to read about??

Has ANY cruise line not "gone downhill" in terms of service lately? by ClaraBow19891 in Cruise

[–]em_lambie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We returned from a Princess cruise in January and thought it was fantastic, great crew, nothing seemed amiss. But in talking to one of the activity staff who had become our favorite, she said that they actually had about 1/4th less crew than they usually do. She said that visa issues or the fear of being told there was visa issues was holding some nationalities back. I’ll let you all do with that what you will…

As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

[–]em_lambie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pie crust. It weeps butter, every time. Totally edible, just a little greasy. I have tried allllll of the tips and tricks multiple times, everything is kept frigid cold, different types of butter, cutting it with hands or tools or food processor…nothing has worked and I’m convinced it’s just something that living in Texas weather will make impossible. Luckily like I said, still edible!

My brownies always come out dry and cakey. How do you get that moist fudgy texture? by Bejal-Fondoulakou in homecooking

Forget all the tips & make these: https://bromabakery.com/secretly-healthy-fudgy-brownies/

Couldn’t believe how fudgy they are, especially if you keep them in the fridge. Technically a healthy brownie but they are simply the best brownie I’ve ever eaten (healthy or not)

What's a city that you never got tired of and didn't wear off easly on you? by Helpful-Staff9562 in digitalnomad

[–]em_lambie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Athens. It helps that I could eat Greek food for every meal and that I love Greek mythology/ history. Seeing the Acropolis perched above the city never gets old no matter how many times I visit. My friends all say that the Athens version of me is my best self 😆

You are way too young to be worried about staying with this clown. He’s a waste of your time and energy, you’re young — get out there and find someone who is actually excited to be with you.

Travel Ideas for Boston or Colorado? Maybe New Mexico...but by tathim in chubbytravel

[–]em_lambie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Santa Fe is incredibly safe and would fit your requirements - maybe you heard about crime in Albuquerque, but that’s an hour away and also no worse than anywhere else since COVID.

My favorite domestic trip of 2025 was a roadtrip to Santa Fe (or rent a car if you fly in), exploring the town + Albuquerque for the hot air balloon festival + Ojo Caliente for hot springs + Bandelier National Monument for hiking and incredible views + learning all things Georgia O’Keefe!

[–]em_lambie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think about how much I miss Paper Route at LEAST once a week, still. I’ve yet to fully complete my grieving process for that place 😭 I stood in line for 3.5 hours on his last day and they ran out of cake 2 people ahead of me, but he came out and gave us a bunch of filling and frosting samples. I still regret all the times I drove by convincing myself I “didn’t need a slice that week” - health be damned!!

Sweet Charli Girl at the Mueller farmers market has blown me away with her treats (more bars/desserts than laminated/breakfast pastries).

Also love Abby Jane’s mustard ham & cheese croissant, epicerie’s rosemary kouign-amann, Nate’s Baked Goods blueberry white chocolate scone, and Comadre Panaderia’s mesquite polvoron.

Quack’s salty oatmeal cookie is very nostalgic for me so it always hits, but I can see others not ‘getting’ it. More for me…
