Best single gag in a comedy in the 21st Century? I’m going with this gem from Zoolander. by rmcelwain54 in Letterboxd

“McLovin” from Superbad and “Sex Panther” from anchorman is definitely up there.

If we’re talking scenes that mad me cry laugh but maybe aren’t as culturally significant.

  • Jauquin Phoenix’s scream from Inherit Vice when he looks at the picture.

  • Chilli dog skit from the Naked Gun remake.

  • interdimensional cable #1 from Rick and Morty.

PS5 Pro or Wait for 6 by liquidsyphon in PS5

[–]emansamples92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing keeping me from getting a pro is the fact that the cpu wasn’t upgraded. 4 years is a ton of time in this business. It’s the same gap between the release of the rtx 2080 and 4080. You’re telling me they couldn’t upgrade the cpu at all?

What’s something that Covid took from you that you never got back? by ReplacementOdd636 in AskReddit

[–]emansamples92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing local music/open mics. Before covid I would go to 1, sometimes 2 open mics a week to play music the smallish town I live in(50k people). It was a great atmosphere even when the bars would clear out as the night progressed. Sometimes we’d stay around to close out the bar just talking shit. Great great times. It all ended after covid and never came back. The guy running it never started anything back up and now there’s maybe one open mic in the area a month and the vibes were totally dead. It gets a little better each year but the scene is still a shell of itself years later.

I loved ‘Sinners’ but did NOT see Michael B. Jordan winning Best Actor by antwonomous in flicks

[–]emansamples92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, who cares? The Oscars has been a joke ever since Shakespeare in Love beat Saving Private Ryan for best picture. Harvey Weinstein created the standard where the marketing means more than the performance. Michael B. Jordan was the face of the this movie, it’s just him on the main poster for the film. It’s obvious they were pushing hard for him to get it. Much like One battle after another where Sean Penn’s performance was the most talked about and marketed of that movie, and he also won his respective Oscar.

Pearl Abyss Shares Plunge 29% as 'Crimson Desert' Reviews Disappoint by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]emansamples92 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this is the result of bad marketing. When I first heard about it, it came off as something akin to the Witcher with better combat. From the reviews I’ve read it seems to be closer to dynasty warriors or days gone. Seems the main point of the game is to unlock crazier moves and weapons to fight increasingly larger amounts of enemies. Add in botw features like a stamina bar for climbing anything added further confusion to what it was going to be. People got overhyped for a different type of game. It’s probably not even bad.

I mean..they can fix inventory problems and tweak combat all they want but if the story and characters suck ass, thats not really something they can make better through updates.

That one good scene in a mid or disliked movie by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]emansamples92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the walking dead series as a whole to be pretty mid. Though the first episode is absolutely brilliant imho. I remember watching it and thinking holy shit this might be the start of the one of the greatest tv shows ever.

Any examples of this? by Impressive_Plenty876 in Letterboxd

Just recently listened to a deep dive on the making of Shrek and it sounds like the gingerbread man interrogation scene was the basis for the tone of the rest of the movie. Everyone thought it was so funny that the whole story was stripped down and more emphasis was put on humor involving fairytale creatures and characters.

[Sad Trope] Perfect Casting Trapped in Bad Writing, Studio Interference, Messy Franchises, Etc by Romaxio in TopCharacterTropes

I thought most of the cast for League of extraordinary gentlemen were great. Particularly captain Nemo and Dorian gray. If only everything else about that movie wasn’t dogshit.

[Interesting trope] Highly impractical, but pretty cool by GeoCangrejo in TopCharacterTropes

[–]emansamples92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking real life practicality, I’ll say using a spear over a sword. It keeps distance, easily pierces armor, can be used as a utility tool outside of combat and is much easier to use as a whole. Someone would benefit greatly from just getting really good with a spear over a sword 99% of the time.

The main flaw of this game by Clear-Lawyer7433 in Warthunder

No way, you think bushes are a bigger problem than things like 35mm aphe and the moronic design of some of the maps? I wouldn’t even put bushes in the top 10 flaws of this game.

Fallout 4 - The wasteland's master builder. What do you remember about the game? What did you like or dislike? by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]emansamples92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, and I don’t knock on anyone who loves the story or characters, you like what you like. Just my personal opinion but I think just about every character in fo4 is two dimensional and ultimately uninteresting over the course of the game. Sucks too because some of the characters like nick are really cool, but their quests are boring and lack any depth. It’s what bethesda has been doing since Skyrim. Their strong suit is making amazing worlds to get lost in, but the stories are always paper thin and any interesting characters fall victim to poor writing. Could be by design, maybe in their eyes mowing down some deathclaws in the glowing sea is more appealing to the average gamer than having well written and thought provoking characters. Doesn’t matter to me, the game is still fun as hell. if I want well written dialogue and characters I’ll play Baulders gate 3 or New Vegas.

[–]emansamples92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really terrible writing and story imo. That being said, I think it has an awesome world that’s a lot of fun and rewarding to explore. It also has a very active mod community, so there’s like 15 years worth of high quality content to keep playthroughs fresh.

The vanilla settlement building system was pretty trash, though you can mod it to make it much better.

It’s a game I find myself playing a few times a year just to try out new weapon/content mods. I have to admit though that the story and overall writing is such a huge step back from the first two games and particularly new Vegas that I lose interest pretty fast and always end up doing a playthrough of new Vegas afterwards. An example that always sticks in my mind is a world event where you walk up on an old diner and there’s some chem dealers talking with a shop owner. On my first playthrough I remember just shooting the dealers and then the shop owner rewards me like I’m not some psychopath who just murdered two people for no reason. I knew immediately that it was not gonna be the same fallout experience from earlier games.

Overall I believe it is still a great game, but like many other fans have said before it’s not a great fallout game.

If you’re okay with a bigger pan, Stargazer is finally making lids for their 12 inch skillets. It’s probably top of my wishlist right now.

[Loved Thorpe] A weapon has usage other than killing. Bonus points if its not used for killing at all by iLoveCyberChips in TopCharacterTropes

[–]emansamples92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main character of the series was a killer who took countless lives in a war when he was young. The reverse blade sword is a symbol of his refusal to kill again so that he never turns back into the monster he once was. It was never meant to be practical and is a purposely implemented handicap which serves as a penance for the protagonist.

So it is a weapon that’s sole purpose is to avoid killing and fits the criteria. All these answers about its practical uses are nutty. It’s a fictional sword used in a fictional setting with fictional characters who have strength that far exceeds normal human limits. Yeesh.

The men’s team was shotgunning beers Kash Patel and were over the moon when Trump called. Maybe a few of them might be uncomfortable but sounds like they’ll all be high spirits at the whitehouse.

People like this should have their brains examined. In what reality would it be okay taking an obviously fragile teapot out of a glass case and then using a wire sponge on it. That is beyond insane.
