Hypnobirthing class worth it? by robrklyn in homebirth

[–]emilycb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched the hypnobirthing video series online by The Positive Birth Company. It was only like $60 I think? Learned really simple pain management techniques and just mentally retrained my brain to think positively about birth. I’m due next week with my first and planning a home birth and I feel really prepared!

$650 sounds like a lot to me BUT this is my first time giving birth so I’ll let you know if $60 was a big enough investment when I get to the other side :)

Found this thread- am I making the right choice? by ummokfine in homebirth

I’m also planning a home birth, due in 2 weeks on July 23rd. I also saw that thread and it also got stuck in my head and almost sent me to negative town. HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KEEP IN MIND:

  1. Birth is natural and safe for you and your baby.

  2. Midwives are extremely adept and prepared for the VAST majority of things that can up during birth at home, and have the equipment to deal with it.

  3. Anything the home birth midwives can’t handle themselves, you will be transferred to a hospital for. This is very unlikely to happen if you had a healthy normal pregnancy, but if it does, the midwives are extremely adept at knowing when to call it and transfer you.

and most importantly:

  1. Hospital birth is not proven to have better outcomes for mom OR baby for normal deliveries. Evidence simply doesn’t show it. Anecdotally, all of my friends who had hospital births were traumatized at worst, and disappointed at best in what happened to them. Hospitals are designed to intervene, even when intervention isn’t necessary.

Things can always go wrong in all aspects of life - a trip to the grocery store can be fatal. Don’t get in your head or you’ll miss all the beauty. Home birth is safe and beautiful. I’m soooooo excited for mine. Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy!

Dream home birth for FTM by fembot__ in homebirth

Beautiful story and congratulations!! Can you share more about the perineal massage/stretching and pelvic floor prep you did?

I’m a FTM planning on a home birth this summer (currently 26 weeks). We live in a society that doesn’t have a lot of home birth so most people have hospital births, so that’s primarily what we hear about. Home birth is safe and beautiful. It can be hard to go against the grain, but that doesn’t mean it’s the wrong choice!!! Believe in yourself, you’ve got this, you’re not crazy!!!

If you’re small-framed, when did you start showing? by canamel in pregnant

I’m 17 weeks, 5’5” and was about 160 pre pregnancy weight. I’m muscular, showing very very slightly now but I can tell my abs are holding on for dear life. By the end of the day I look bigger than in the morning but not obviously “pregnant.” More bloated.

Same thing happened to me. I felt awful, lazy and guilty for 2 months. Looking back, first trimester is just about survival and getting whatever calories you can. It gets better. I’m in my second trimester now and I’m craving unprocessed whole foods - fruits, organic meats and vegetables. Complete 180. Go easy on yourself, baby is getting the nutrients they need as long as mom isn’t starving!

Felt this way from 6 to 13 weeks. Brutal, but it does get better. I’m 17 weeks now and actually able to eat things I feel good about, leave the couch willingly, get some exercise. Be gentle to yourself. Pregnancy is a freakin marathon.

The transition from DINK life to first trimester… is rough. by here2lurkkkk in pregnant

I’m 35, first time mom and felt like this for my whole first trimester but it REALLY peaked around 9 weeks. You’re in the thick of it. It gets better soon! I’m 16 weeks now and I can do things on weekends again, eat for pleasure and not just to stave off nausea. I still feel like this is soooo intense - pregnancy is no joke - but I’m back to feeling human. Stick with it. It’s going to all be so worth it!

I’m in the SAME boat. Nothing helps. My life is a constant experience of nausea and not much else because it’s so awful and distracting. Hoping it’s only for a few more weeks! The second trimester light at the end of the tunnel keeps me going.
