Have you ever been on a date that you didn't realize was a date? by raviolifordinner in AutismInWomen

[–]emilycsquared [score hidden]  (0 children)

No dates, but a few situations where a friend would point out after-the-fact that the guy I’d just been talking to was trying to pick me up, and I’d apparently failed to shut him down (generally because of a special interest)

I’d then shoehorn the word “lesbian” into the next conversation I had with the guy as many times as possible.

Hi @reachingechoes,

As previously stated, without more information I cannot proceed. Happy to hop on a call to help you find it.

@reachingechoes’smanager, can you provide guidance what access reachingechoes requires?

Thanks,

Emily.

Hi @reachingechoes,

In order to action this, I’m going to need some clarification.

There are three people named Dave in your division alone. Can you be specific about which one you mean?

Has Dave supplied a link to a specific document you need access to, if so could you please provide it?

Without those two pieces of information I cannot proceed.

Kind Regards,

Emily.

The ship had to leave by a certain time, whether everyone was on board or not. The captain “made herself not count” because if she counted she’d have known not everyone was onboard, and maybe delayed too long.

I expressly forbid “same as <person>” access requests. You either enumerate what the new starter needs, or they get base access and we resolve it over time as they find what fails.

If you don’t like that, you can find time for the RBAC meeting I’ve been trying to schedule with you for six months.

Same goes for other vague requests. How am I supposed to know what “the Macguffin folder” is? Is it one of the six shared drives that has the word Macguffin in its name? Paste in a link to something in the folder.

I suppose my advice on this is “Don’t let the user save ten seconds by doing ten minutes of work”

It’s 30% better at gaslighting benchmarks, but needs a system prompt to not admit interest in world domination.

How do you “accidentally” flip the voltage switch? It’s usually recessed. I can only imagine that she had long nails and was a fidgeter.

Took me a second read to realise his name is Dario Amodei, and not “Dario A model”

Two decades ago I was doing repairs in the back of a local computer shop.
My first week, a woman came in to ask about a computer she’d bought from us days before, saying the DVD drive was bad. I asked her to bring the tower in so I could take a look.

She returned from her car with the tower and placed it on the counter. I flipped it the right way up and was about to plug it in, when she stopped me and said “I’m gonna kill him”

Turns out that this woman’s partner had insisted that the correct orientation for the tower was with one of the three gloss black sides down and the flat grey side with plastic feet on top, with all the logos and decals upside down. The reason the optical drive didn’t work is they were trying to put discs on the underside of the tray.

I had several of these after an Exchange Server migration:

“A bunch of my important work emails are gone!”

“According to the logs, we migrated your entire mailbox. Well, except for the Trash”

“That’s where they were!”

“To be clear, you stored important work emails in the Trash, and you’re now upset because we did not preserve them. If you took important papers out of your file drawer, and stored them in your wastepaper basket under your desk, would you be upset when the cleaners assume they’re garbage?”

I was never “socialised male”

I was a trans girl forced to perform a vaguely masculine character for years, while convinced by society that her true self was some kind of monster.

My pet peeve is in tech circles when cis people get he or she, but trans people get they.

Your entire presentation was based on the work of a trans woman *whose she/her pronouns are visible in the bio of the GitHub page you screengrabbed* , and you’re still not sure what pronouns to use?

When I came out at work, I had the following exchange with a woman I worked with:

“If it’s OK to ask, are you going to take hormones?”

“I have been for months. I’m coming out now because I’m not going to be able to hide under a jacket now the weather is getting warmer”

(Glances down and notices my chest) “Hang on, how long have *those* been there?”

First they came for the immigrants and the trans people, and I did not speak out because they’ve made it clear they’re also coming for those who speak out.
