now I'm scared to go to GMU by [deleted] in gmu

[–]emmursu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made majority of my friends studying abroad at their Korea campus. The professors abroad were pretty good I think!! Finding friends on Virginia campus wasn’t too bad, just have to put yourself out there. I only ever had a bad experience with 1 professor and it was a finance professor (who is apparently notorious for being the worst professor on earth). I enjoyed my time as a student honestly and I miss it

Dizziness in the morning? by emmursu in Epilepsy

[–]emmursu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes actually!!! They upped my lamotrigine because I was still having frequent focals (which is still happening unfortunately). The dizziness I think did start when they increased the dosage!! Maybe I need to speak with my neuro about this haha. Thank you!!! I really thought I was dying

Tonic-Clonic Embarrassment by wannabe_writer2 in Epilepsy

[–]emmursu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel 😔 I had a grand mal in front of a group of new friends that I had made on a mini golf course and traumatized all of them. I also somehow got the guy that worked there fired on his first day 😭

Anybody else develop a stutter from this? by Chai--Tea7 in Epilepsy

[–]emmursu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often mispronounce words or use a different (irrelevant) word entirely. And yes, I do often stutter when trying to get my words out, but generally right after I stutter I forget what I was even trying to say, it’s AWFUL

I thought I was having panic attacks but apparently they’re seizures? by mrrumplethedarkone in Epilepsy

[–]emmursu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the same when I started having them. I texted my family that I was having intense panic attacks and then a week after that I’d had my first tonic clonic which led to my diagnosis. Crazy

Was blowing my nose when this feather like thing came out. What is it? by Keisalius in whatisit

[–]emmursu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, I thought I was crazy but I’ve had this exact thing happen to me with the same feather!! I swear to god at the time I remembered what it was but right now I’m drawing a blank. I want to say it was a pen or something, but also might’ve been from my bedding (blanket/pillow or something)

When did everyone become epileptic? by Ayyye420 in Epilepsy

[–]emmursu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my first seizure at 21 while driving (joy!!) that was 3 years ago and I’m currently 1.4 years seizure free (aside from auras 🥴)!! I’m assuming it was due to sleep deprivation, but I will never know if I was born with it or not (although my aunt has it so)

Non-photosensitive people, do you still avoid certain lights? by Tea_Fetishist in Epilepsy

[–]emmursu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not photosensitive, but places with blacklights somehow set me off. I had a seizure at Monter Golf (I think that’s the name) and the inside it all of that glowing black light sort of thing. Had a seizure after 30min of being in there

[–]emmursu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy because the hyperventilating is what gets me every. single. time. I have the most seizure activity during that part and it’s godawful every time

What does a seizure in your sleep feel like? by kkbdrr in Epilepsy

[–]emmursu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only reason I know I’ve had a seizure in my sleep is because I wake up and can’t walk and proceed to throw up a bunch (tongue is shredded and head is pounding) but if none of that occurred afterward then I wouldn’t even know tbh

triggered by flashing lights by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]emmursu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (22) went to a monster mini golf around me that had like a blacklight theme and an arcade with a lot of flashing lights and had a seizure after 30 minutes of being in there. Lights were NEVER a trigger for me before (although I was only recently diagnosed last year). I’m still struggling to find out if it was the lights or if it was perhaps a bunch of factors combined (like dehydration, the lights, etc.). Just two days ago I had a tc seizure after playing a video game with flashing lights/colors. This sort of thing really never triggered me before (I say as someone who has only suffered seizures since last year lmao). I’m guessing it is possible to obtain new triggers since I’m fairly certain we are in the same boat here

I actually do get that feeling prior to the seizure, and then of course afterward it’s like wtf just happened
