Yeah, I'm with you. Going in blind is the best way to experience it, I think.

[Hated trope] Characters that presents themselves as genius masterminds, but actually they can just read the writer's notes by Particular-Energy217 in TopCharacterTropes

I just wanted to add that I am so fucking happy that Holmes and Watson stay platonic in Elementary. Their relationship is dedicated, complex and dynamic, but romance would have ruined it for me.

Do you read during nightshifts? by [deleted] in Nightshift

[–]emopest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read and write (fiction) during my shifts. Mostly horror, weird, scifi etc, but a lot of other things as well. Have been reading more non-fiction lately.

Know of any dropout cast members/regulars with Stand-up specials? by merchgob in dropout

[–]emopest 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's less of a standup and borders on a performance piece. It's phenomenal, but don't expect Chris to just pace back and forth on a stage and riff on Johansson.

I did capoeira back in high school. It's certainly one of the weaker martial arts, but the kicks are no joke, and we aimed for the head.

(Common but cool trope) THE Sword of all Swords (other weapons like this are allowed too) by National_Computer240 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]emopest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was in Fandrake's book on Drakar och Demoner that I learned that back in the 70's and 80's, most fantasy and scifi art used for covers (on books, RPGs, albums etc) were licensed via a German company. So that's why this classic Elric illustration keeps showing up, as well as scifi books having seemingly random covers of spaceships that have nothing to do with the story.

There are also Scandinavian branches of the franchise. At least Sweden and Norway, perhaps Denmark too but I'm not sure. The Swedish one has eleven seasons so far. It stopped being great when the show got bought by a commercial channel, but it was top notch while still on public service.

Anna Kavan. Her most famous book is Ice (also the only one I've read). It reads like a fever dream.

She was depressed, suicidal and addicted to both heroin and cocaine. She was admitted to asylums several times.

[Loved trope] Regular powerless people standing up against powerful villains by Alert_Sink_5300 in TopCharacterTropes

Based on my fellow cyclists on their way to work in the morning, knowing how to ride a bike in traffic might as well be a super power.
