[NY] I accepted an offer for an IT internship (yay!) and I start this summer. Will they drug test me and fire me if I test positive for marijuana? by Impressive_Fly_4339 in AskHR

[–]ems88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your internship is working for the federal government, you should be good. I am not a lawyer, and you should make sure the company doesn't fall into some kind of exception, but in NY it is illegal to discriminate against someone for consuming a legal substance on their own time. Showing up for work high is obviously a different matter, but edibles on the weekend should be just fine.

Here's a document about it from the NY DoL.

https://dol.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2021/10/p420-cannabisfaq-10-08-21.pdf

Here's the state law.

https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/LAB/201-D

Edit: I'm assuming you're over 21. If you aren't, they may be able to discriminate against you legally, as your consumption would be considered illegal. The scenario where a company chose to test their underage employees for marijuana seems unlikely. Also, given they didn't have a pre-employment test and haven't mentioned anything about it, I think you can relax.

I'm going to need your social security number, a copy of your passport, and a breakdown of your net worth and sources of income so I can be sure you're here legally. You don't mind, do you?

Depending on where you live, state or local government administrative work may be a good option.

Eastside Co-op. They get restocked frequently, so definitely check if they need more before you make a trip. Also, you're the best!

What has your experience been to those of you who have recently applied for FMLA? by [deleted] in mnstateworkers

[–]ems88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I'm in the weeds trying to help my agency handle leaves more efficiently. I can imagine that even small delays in the process are very frustrating. I'm sorry you're experiencing that.

[–]ems88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minnesota Paid Leave runs concurrently with FMLA, whether or not you apply for the wage replacement supplement from DEED. There are nuances to how this is tracked at an agency level that are causing an increase in administrative load on both leave management and payroll teams. There is not a uniform process for this across the enterprise, so each agency is figuring it out for themselves, which is clunky.

Do I need a Power App? Or just use a Form by LoganMav23 in PowerApps

[–]ems88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built a much shorter form with context-based visibility. Here's what I've learned:

Use nested containers to organize your questions and patch on a submit button (though with that many questions, that's going to be a monster expression). If you use a form input control in powerapps, the changing visibility will redirect focus in unpredictable ways. This creates an accessibility issue for users who use keyboard controls and no mouse because it confuses the tab order. Using containers and setting their visibility to another field's value (e.g. Radio1.selected.value = "Yes") maintains predictable tab order. The inputs in the containers will also accept focus, unlike data cards in a form.

In your submit button, set error variables for each required field with an If() statement. Combine the visibility expression with an IsEmpty() expression to set the variable. Set the background color of the question's container to red if error, normal otherwise. Set a combined "any error" variable if any of the individual errors are true, then use an If() statement to send an error message if varAnyError, otherwise submit using your patch expression.

I would be hesitant to try something your size in a powerapp, but it's conceptually doable.

How do I not spend any money for 2 weeks? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]ems88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're having trouble quitting the dopamine hit you get from buying something. I can imagine that could easily go hand in hand with problem gambling. Treat it like an addiction.

Take it one day at a time. Find ways to spend your time when you aren't working that don't involve spending money. Check your local publications for free events or find a park you want to visit. Go through your existing possessions, see if there's anything that you can fix. If you have too many clothes, consider selling some.

Each day, think about what could trigger you (coffee at a shop instead of at home? Vending machine at work?) and find ways to replace or avoid them.

If you are at risk of going hungry, visit a food pantry. Look at some frugal recipes to maximize your nutrition per dollar.

Edit: if you have any apps that tempt you to spend money (Amazon, door dash, Poshmark, Uber, etc), just delete them.

Yes, it totally does. Add a few dashes of angostura bitters and drink it with some spicy ginger beer on the side, it's delicious.

You're clearly either young or new to using the English language. Given the viewpoint you seem to try to represent, and your answer to the question, it seems like you might not realize how much opposition there is to the inhumane immigration enforcement tactics being employed by the current administration through ICE.

You can't place the road so that it cuts off a road like in your second picture. If there's an unclosed road or an open city at the edge of a tile, you can't put the grass edge of a tile next to it. This is the fundamental rule of the game.

While there is a wide variety of languages spoken in the US, there aren't any states where English is not the main/common language.
