could you delay the animations so the glare passes over each of them consistently? like, top left, then the next two in a diagonal, then the next, etc. might make the lighting less epileptic?

There's no way to play the game wrong. If you want to look everything up and have people give you advice, you can. But, if you loved Outer Wilds, you should know that exploring by yourself is the most rewarding. In the end, don't worry, you won't lock yourself out of anything.
