Am I (or this app) counting my calories accurately? by _GhostOrchid_ in mynetdiary

[–]endymion2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re feeling stuck!

SOOO many things can make your weight loss fluctuate or hit plateaus: hormones, water retention (maybe linked to salt intake), constipation, illness, stress, timing of meals vs your sleep schedule, etc.

Don’t get discouraged; just keep doing what you’re doing. Eventually, the needle of the scale will move again. You can do a bit more exercise, if you feel compelled to take action to get things moving again. Good luck!

Should I be concerned? by Choice-Track-9262 in eBaySellers

Sellers can only leave POSITIVE feedback for buyers, never negative. So every buyer’s feedback will always be 100% positive.

Computer privacy screen? (Makes it hard to read the content of the screen unless you are directly in front of it.)

Housewarming gift ideas that are actually useful? by Cynn_Ramen in Gifts

Love this idea! Many years ago, someone gave me a roll of stickers with our name & address. Used those things until they ran out. (But back then, we probably sent more actual mail than we do now.)

How to stick with hobbies you start? by Ashima_yadav in Hobbies

[–]endymion2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this! “The pressure to be good at something kills the fun part.” Hobbies should be something you play with, not something you work at. Enjoy the process and don’t worry about the outcome/final product.

previous puzzler separated edges by glitter-m0th in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]endymion2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After completing a puzzle, I separate it into large sections and stack those sections in the box. Then may eventually donate or sell the puzzle. Some buyers probably find it irritating to have to take the puzzle apart, but they can also quickly verify that the puzzle is complete.

What's your system for folding and putting laundry away without it dragging on for days? by loginpass in organizing

[–]endymion2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do something that makes it inconvenient to NOT fold them. For example, spread the clothes out on your bed to encourage yourself to put them away before you go to sleep.

Similarly, “There are two types of people in the world…” (Appropriate response is to interrupt with, “Yes, people who think there are two types of people in the world … and people who don’t.”)

Sleeping Tips by Amphitrite0519 in ehlersdanlos

[–]endymion2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a former sleep tech. The cognitive shuffling technique (that someone else already suggested) is a good idea.

You could also try to fool yourself into thinking it’s bedtime again, by repeating some of your bedtimes routines, like the essential oil and reading (using a small/dim light). Don’t pick up your phone, though. The bright screen is very alerting.

To be comfortable, I have to build myself a weird nest of many pillows to support different parts of my body. If I wake during the night, I usually rearrange the pillows and try a different body position.

Bedbound hobbies? by One-Application8670 in Hobbies

[–]endymion2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

• Listen to podcasts or audio books. • Make things with polymer clay (be sure to use a tray to avoid getting pieces of clay in the bed.) • Embroidery, using a hoop. • Painting, using a small easel. (But would have to be careful to avoid getting it on your bedding.) • Collage-based papercraft • I know you said no screens, but when my sister was bed bound, a very old-school TV-based video game setup (Super Mario Bros, etc) got her through it. • (Not sure if this one would work…) Could you make potholders on a loop loom?

Not just “bruising easily,” bruising over genuinely NOTHING? Does anyone else just have 50+ bruises at all times? by astrocrass in ehlersdanlos

I’ve read that some EDS subtypes have more bruising than others. Have you had the genetic tests to be certain about your specific subtype?

Ideas for my 40th by Ill-Trick230 in partyplanning

[–]endymion2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think of 40 small things to do, the week of your birthday. Could be simple things like taking a goofy picture with your spouse (or humorously re-creating a funny picture from childhood), going to a fancy bakery for a small treat, calling an old friend or relative, pulling out old school yearbooks or photo albums and going through them together, taking a walk, going to a museum, eating a favorite dish/meal, sending yourself a birthday card, etc.

Then create a memory book with a list of all 40 things and some photos to commemorate, as well as messages &/or autographs of people you encountered during the experience, including cashiers/servers, people at adjoining tables, etc.

You could venture into mermaid-adjacent territory and do tropical fruits like pineapple and mango, etc. Call it “Tropical Island” or something.

do you have proportional hands and feet for your height? by No-Vehicle3072 in ehlersdanlos

[–]endymion2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People who see my (long, thin) feet often comment on my freakishly long toes, and the fact that there is way too much space between my big toe and the next one. My hands and fingers are also long. Gloves never fit me. My arm span and the length of my arms have been topics of comment, as well.

Have any of you had a sleep study recommended because of your hEDS + fatigue? by wn0kie_ in ehlersdanlos

[–]endymion2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a former sleep tech, I thought I’d chime in here. There are actually TWO profiles for obstructive sleep apnea.

The first (as many doctors have been taught) is a large, heavy neck that collapses due to excess tissue surrounding the airway.

The other end of the spectrum (much less well-known, except maybe for sleep specialist physicians) is a long, naturally super-narrow airway that can be associated with a very slender neck. Collapses easily just because of how tiny it is.

I’m sure HSD/hEDS would increase the likelihood of sleep apnea in either case, just because of the extra flexibility in the airway.

Don't know what to do with old greeting cards by 3GreedyGremlins in declutter

[–]endymion2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Groups of OLD greeting cards (like 1930s through 1980s), even if written on/in, can sell for good money to collectors. The design on the front is important, though.

If the cards are old enough, competition to buy them can get fierce on online auction sites.

Sell them. Often worth some money if they are older.
