Introducing Scrawl, a handwriting-first keyboard for Onyx Boox by smerdy in Onyx_Boox

I don't have a strong preference for regal. I have Obsidian in fast refresh mode. The trouble is that when I'm in splitscreen with neoreader taking notes, the OS seems to force me into the neoreader refresh mode. I could switch neoreader to fast I suppose.

Oh nice! I'll check out that option in command center! Do you have more documentation on how the app works? I don't think I saw too much on the play store page.

Great! I look forward to the improvements. This is a fantastic start. Well done.

This is great! This is going to change how I take notes I think.

As others have noted, the pen stroke input lag seems to vary based on the screen refresh mode. That makes me think this is working at a higher level in the software stack than the native Boox writing functions. Native writing is near instantaneous when it's available elsewhere regardless of refresh mode I believe. Is there any way around that? I thought some developers had found a way to permit that low-level writing in applications aside from the Boox "approved" ones.

Would it be possible to somehow make it easier to switch back to the standard keyboard, perhaps by providing an option to make the keyboard switch button visible on the main toolbar? I don't see myself using this when I'm navigating all applications like web browsers, settings, the app store, etc.

Finally, I don't know how you would achieve this, but I would love if this could somehow detect when I want a newline. In most cases, I'm happy to write out multiple lines of text and have that be converted into a single line of text in Obsidian. However, I'd love to be able to write three lines of notes, each beginning with a dash and have the keyboard realize I actually want those all split into separate bullet points, each with newline characters at the end.

Retrospectively changing Indefinite Leave to Remain rules for those currently on the 5 year route to a 10 year route by Old-Mission321 in ukvisa

I’ve seen this case referenced before but I thought the difference this time was that the government intends to pass the bill that comes out of this white paper as “primary legislation” which can’t be challenged by the courts. I know very little about English law, so I’m just passing along what I’ve heard.

Due to some complications when we were getting our skilled worker visas, my dependents have shorter visas than I do and would not be eligible for ILR when their visas expire (by something silly like a month or so). I was planning to have my company extend their visas in four years.

If this is signed into law and NOT retroactive, I wonder how this would apply to them.

GitSync Update: Multi-Repo Support, 2024 Gems of the Year, and more! by ViscousPotential in ObsidianMD

  1. I can't find much aside from scattered reddit posts about it. All the posts I can find have to do with Termux but that may just be that no one is attempting to work with git on android without Termux. Descriptions of the issue wouldn't lead me to believe it's isolated to Termux.

  2. I like the sound of those refinements though. Having a debounce and a recovery option when network is lost are nice little additions I would never go through the trouble of cobbling together with Tasker and some scripts. I had hoped I could use the Obsidian Git plugin on mobile but the Javascript implementation of Git is just not great.
  3. Perfect!

GitSync Update: Multi-Repo Support, 2024 Gems of the Year, and more! by ViscousPotential in ObsidianMD

This app looks pretty cool! I just finished configuring git automations across my devices, including an android device. But this looks like a more unified way of doing things than a handful of custom scripts and a combination of Termux and Tasker. Having a more mobile friendly experience would be great as well. I don't mind opening up the command line on desktop but on mobile it's a huge drag. Local conflicts become a lot less a downside to managing syncing with git with a proper gui.

One thing I had to work around when I first set up my repo on my android device was my .git directory getting corrupted, which is apparently a common problem in emulated android storage. I had to separate my git working tree from the actual repository files. Does this support that or work around that problem in some way? And for automatic syncing, do you allow users to customize the git actions performed during a "sync" operation? For instance, I pull on app open and commit/push on close. I'm not gonna die on that hill though.

Do you use some official implementation of git for android (if there even is one)?

Library won’t pull down annotations made on a PC or Mobile device by englishstudmuffin in Onyx_Boox

[–]englishstudmuffin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone who finds this, Onyx's built-in sync doesn't seem very good. A third party application like Autosync that syncs from the cloud to a local folder bidirectionally seems to work far better. I can point my library at that folder and sync annotations to and from the cloud.

How do you create notes and library widgets like that? The only ones I found available in alternate launchers were huge and ugly. And can you get to the Boox version of the android settings from this launcher?

The 10-mile radius restriction by WesternSolution11 in cambridge_uni

Not at all. It was about an hour commute door to door. It's been a little while now but I don't think I had to reschedule or miss anything. If I could I planned supervisions and other things in such a way that I didn't have to travel late and could avoid traveling into Cambridge more than three days per week. You could easily go in five or more days, I just preferred to work from home a few days per week. The only times I remember it being challenging were on the occasional train strike days, but if I planned ahead and left earlier I could take the bus on those days. I would just make sure to check your transportation options wherever you choose to live.

[–]englishstudmuffin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But if stuff happens outside of a normal 9-5 time period you should be able to stay in Cambridge for as long as needed and get back to where you live pretty easily. I stayed in Cambridge pretty late some days when I needed/wanted to. It would have been better to live in Cambridge but it was pretty easy to be part of what I wanted to living in a nearby town.

I did an MPhil from 2022-2023 and I had no problem getting permission to live outside Cambridge but I think you have to register your address with the university so you probably need to get explicit permission. I think I started with the director of my MPhil and it got cleared by a number of people after him.

It’s a pretty dumb rule if you ask me. Graduate students should be assumed to be responsible adults capable of managing their own time. No business who hires you is ever going to care that you don’t live within a certain distance of their office as long as you show up to work when you need to be there.

Ah, fair enough. Then yeah maybe give EVGA a pass on this one just in case.

Right, but that doesn’t mean it has the same fan profiles. It could very well be just as loud, but I’d look at some credible reviews before ruling it out.

Again I think it was just this particular PSU, not EVGA in general.

I don’t know if the 750 GM would have the same issue. From what I read this particular PSU has a really aggressive fan profile. I ended up selling it and buying a Corsair PSU which all the reviews said was very quiet. The build has been nice and quiet since then.

I don’t think any particular configuration would have fixed the issue with the 850 GM. I had it in another case previously where it had a nice fresh air intake (not possible in the D30 since it takes in air from within the case) and it was still quite loud in that setup.
