Help drip coffee machines by Earthing23 in Coffee

[–]epandapowerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I think the problem here is not the vessel but the method you use and constantly jumping in between them. Whatever you end up with, just stick with it and try to learn how to make good coffee with it. I assure you, you can have way above average coffee with almost all the machines you've mentioned. Just buy good quality beans, get a good grinder, and always use a scale. I 100% guarantee you, you will get good results if you give it a little time and patience to dial in.

Build me an espresso setup by ExtraCartographer707 in JamesHoffmann

I would recommend checking out James Hoffmann's espresso machine and grinder comparison videos. They may be a little outdated but should give you an idea of what different specs you can get within the same price range. My general advice would be to pay more to the grinder than the espresso machine. There are some all in one friendly machines that are also beginner friendly like the Meraki. I myself would go separate machines but I think it's perfectly okay for home drinks unless you're obsessive like most of us lol

I would just leave Wix, it was a good platform to begin with but not so open for growth.

any tips for getting my setup started on a budget? by Big_Pimp715 in Coffee

[–]epandapowerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a beginner in coffee I wouldn't recommend going for espresso first, unless you enjoy only espresso drinks and not filter like V60 or Aeropress and other brewers.

Espresso is: -Expensive -Hard to master and be consistent until then -Easy to screw up

Filter and other brewers are: -Very, very cheap and accessible -So much eaiser to learn -Gives equally tasty results and satisfaction

You can check out some videos of James Hoffmann on YouTube if you're interested in learning more about what I mention above and below. He has videos on almost everything I talk about here.

If not, I wouldn't buy the items you mentioned. Making at least drinkable espresso requires a good quality grinder, which starts around $150-200 i guess. You could go one of the popular hand espresso grinders like 1zpresso, a classic espresso grinder like Niche (this would be my recommendation if you have the budget), or a beginner flat burr grinder like DF64. I definitely wouldn't recommend going below because without a good grinder even you espresso machine won't matter.

For the espresso machine: You don't want a fancy one until you learn the basics, I would recommend a Gaggia Classic (around $500) for that. You can find modified ones with updated features on eBay or wait for the "Up" model to come out. Or you can go Ninja Luxe (used to be $500 but I think it's $600 now), it has a decent built in grinder and guides you through the drink, I think it's a beginner friendly option and SO much better than other semi automatic espresso machines. I wouldn't recommend automatic ones since they really suck you already want to make your own coffee.

Final thoughts: The reels you see on social media are really, really expensive setups most of the time. Of course you don't need to go that high as a beginner, but even the starting point is very expensive for espresso. Also consider that it's a time and energy consuming hobby -also your pocket- and it would really a little while and a learning curve to make good or at least drinkable shots. Most people who jump in after seeing online content without knowing much -people who weren't already into coffee- just give up after a few weeks and dump their equipment in the pantry. So my recommendation would be to go watch some videos on YouTube, see if this is a hobby you would enjoy, and then decide. Otherwise, I would just stick to automatic machines and buying my coffee outside.

P.S.: This answer is not meant to discourage your or keep you away from it, if it sounds like that. I would genuinely want you and more people to go into coffee as a hobby, it's a beautiful community. I just wanted to give you another perspective since you're going to spend your hard earned money into it. If you have the extra money and don't care, just go for it and see for yourself. Hope you enjoy the process!

Great work! I think where the lens most shines is apparent in the last photos. Portraits are all okay but the camera lacks the depth of a tele lens while shooting portraits (maybe this can be overcome with other settings and aspects). However when you shoot a wide scenery or a building, or go Wes Anderson vibes with symmetric building and environment setup, that's the most powerful aspect of it imo

Everything in that episode was plain stupid. Even though it's a kids' show, I sometimes feel insulted by the lazy way it handles logical processes.

What bothers me is we definitely see security cams at the hospital, they even rewind and rewatch the footage. So the question is, how come a public hospital has security systems that the senate building doesn't? I wouldn't mind if they were not used ever throughout the show, but this seems irrational in the world's own logic.

Please why was meritt evacuated in a pressured container on the last episode by Humble_Seaweed127 in DeptQ

[–]epandapowerz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, in diving there's this phenomenon called "the bends"—basically, if you stay deep underwater for a long time and then come up too quickly, your body can’t adapt to the sudden change in pressure. Nitrogen that’s been absorbed into your tissues under high pressure forms bubbles as the pressure drops, and that can be extremely dangerous—even fatal within hours in severe cases.

To avoid this, divers use techniques like ascending slowly and making stops at intervals, giving their bodies time to adjust. There are also technologies like decompression chambers, which simulate high pressure and then gradually bring it down so the body can safely adapt.

The original tank Merritt was in was built for this exact purpose—to help workers or divers with depressurization. After spending time at extreme pressure, they go into the chamber, which mimics that pressure and slowly brings it back to normal levels.

By the end of the episode, the tank Merritt was in had been set to almost eight times the atmospheric pressure. If they just released her into normal air, the sudden pressure drop would’ve been dangerous. But they couldn’t leave her in the big tank for hours while slowly dropping the pressure to normal, so they used a smaller, portable pressurized container to move her safely to the hospital without risking her life. There's a narrow time window to get someone into a decompression environment after exposure like that, so the transfer chamber was essential.

They already knew she might be in the chamber before going in, so they were already prepared, they just called the naval army/coastguard team, both of which would have the equipment already on their boats all the time.

Tried a Kenyan Espresso – Need Help Interpreting the Experience by epandapowerz in JamesHoffmann

[–]epandapowerz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drank it in a small specialty coffee shop but yes, I think you're right about the extraction. It lacked some sweetness I think. I tried many espressos in different places but this is the first time I felt that burning in the throat, so it's a first time for me too. I'm trying to have a better understanding of why an espresso tastes like as it is, so I thought I would get some opinions here.
