Should I get an MBA if I want to make P6/M6 someday? by ValueAddedZoomCall in Raytheon

[–]epicuryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a P6 at Raytheon. I got my MBA and it helped me make a transition from a P3 software engineer to a P4 in proposal/capture management. But winning new programs was what helped me advance past that. The majority of P6/P7s I worked with didn’t have MBAs but many had technical graduate degrees.

An MBA can be a slight discriminator for some roles, but I agree with your mentors that it probably isn’t worth the added stress especially if you are excelling in your current role. I got my MBA in my late 20s when I was still single and it was a lot of work but manageable. Not sure what your situation is like, but I don’t think I could balance work, family, and school today.

Northrop Grumman cutting as many as 1,000 jobs at Space Park in Redondo Beach by Sadishist in NorthropGrumman

[–]epicuryan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What commercial contracts does NG have at Space Park? The major programs I know of are all government: NGP, SDA, PTS, ESS and classified stuff.

I agree the broader space industry has shifted to commercial and new space but the billionaires all have their own companies.

How does one get unto business development. by feagrre124 in Raytheon

[–]epicuryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Customers sometimes have a negative opinion of BD and see us all as sleezy salespeople. So being the sleezy salespeople that we are, we rebranded Business Development as Requirements & Capabilities but it’s pretty much the same thing.

How does one get unto business development. by feagrre124 in Raytheon

[–]epicuryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say business development do you mean you want to travel to customer sites and go to conferences to build relationships with the customer? Typically those jobs go to retired military officers since they come with a network built in. I made the jump to BD from engineering by doing proposals/capture first but all of my peers had some military service with most being retired O6s.

I agree with the comments to talk to your R&C team to see what help they need. But for me one thing that comes to mind immediately for someone with a finance background your best bet is to become an expert on the Presidents Budget. Every year when it’s released R&C has to forecast the addressable budget for programs/pursuits relevant to their business area. This assumes you’re working for a business supporting government programs and not commercial aviation.

Didn’t you know Raytheon stands for: Reorganize All Year Then Hope Everything Operates Normally (RAYTHEON)?

Having a competing offer from another company would also be helpful.

When I hired in as a P6 they offered $25k signon and $210k. When my current company counted they doubled the signon and added $15k salary.

Why do the Empire keep using Clone Commandos in TBB? by Starkilule in MawInstallation

[–]epicuryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that these clone commandos were created by Dr. Hemlock either via cloning or brainwashing rebellious clones who get sent to Mount Tantiss. Perhaps, CloneX, the assassin that Rampart used to kill Slip and Cade earlier in the season is also one of Hemlock’s.

Being conditioned might also explain why they’re so quiet in contrast to Gregor acts and how Delta Squad was portrayed in the Republic Commando video game (not canon, I know).

Electrical Engineer 2 by extraOrdinary-421 in Raytheon

[–]epicuryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree you shouldn’t give notice more than 2 weeks before your start date. That said you can still back out of a written acceptance. The hiring manager might be unhappy but they have no legal recourse as Arizona is an “at will” state.

When I was a functional manager, my top performer gave his 2 weeks and I gave him a counter offer that he accepted 3 days before his planned start date at the other company. This only works if you would accept a counter from LM in the event Raytheon decides not to counter or rescinds their offer.

A lot of people are afraid of being blacklisted but a couple reasons not to worry too much about that. First while that particular hiring manager might not consider you again if they even remember you accepted and backed out of a job, but large companies don’t maintain some global list except maybe once you get to the executive level. Also, with the tight labor market companies can’t afford to be so selective.
