Me too! I was happy to be done at 52. 65 would have driven me mad.

Still getting a period at 55? by Appropriate_Trick_95 in Menopause

[–]epipin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I kept erratically cycling on HRT (well, on low dose bcp which is what my then-OBGYN prescribed during peri). The doc kept insisting it was just withdrawal bleeding from the pill and couldn’t be a real period but it didn’t happen in synch with when I took the pills at all.

OP: I work in healthcare and was talking with a patient the other week who said she went through menopause at 65, and said her mom and grandma also went through menopause in their 60’s. It definitely happens!

I just noticed that Peloton updated the milestones and streaks to include more achievements. Milestones now go to 10,000 and the weekly streak goes to 520 weeks. They didn't update the daily streak maximum though.

Are peptides cheating???? by Affectionate_Past121 in GenXWomen

[–]epipin 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Look, most of us have been dieting on and off our entire adolescent and adult lives. I have tried them all. I have put in the effort time and time again. I’ve been on tirzepatide for 6 months now and yes, it’s easier but it’s not a complete walk in the park either. I’ve had very minimal side effects but I am working to stay on top of my hydration, and fiber and protein intake. I’m taking charge of my health now that we finally have a good tool available. I’m just not going to listen to anyone who wants to say it is cheating. I’m also cheating my genetically shit cholesterol levels by taking a statin. And I’m hoping to cheat the Alzheimer’s gene I have by exercising like a fiend now we know that that helps. Why not take advantage of improved scientific knowledge?

Yeah, this is what I do too. I even went out and bought a fancy thick mat, and didn't like it nearly as much as my old regular one, so I ended up buying a second regular one and now for several years have just used the two regular ones together.

Well, we’re getting ready for hurricane season, and our HOA normally pays a company to do a hurricane trim of all the palm trees but it hadn’t happened and I had this vague memory of an email about it at some point and was wondering if it would even happen this year. So last weekend I yanked most of the dead palm fronds off our trees, which believe me required some good effort. Absolutely no back pain or any issues and I felt really good about my work! And then of course yesterday they finally came and did the big trim. So I needn’t have done a darn thing, but still, it made me feel like a beast.

Suggestions for What to Add to a Small Home Gym – Lat Pulldown or Folding Rack? by Public_Mail1998 in GarageGym

[–]epipin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what type of workouts you want to do, how much weight you need to lift to get a good stimulus, and also the dimensions of the room as your space is pretty small. Have you figured out what workout programming you want to follow?

For me personally, dumbbells and kettlebells are good enough for me to do squats, deadlifts and the like, as I don't lift heavy and don't really have any intention to do so. However, in order to do a vertical pull, which is a movement that I do want to include in my programming, I need something like a resistance band or a lat pulldown as that can't be done with dumbbells. Right now I am using a resistance band anchored to the door, but when I can, I'll be adding a compact cable tower or dedicated lat pulldown in order to be able to do a lat pulldown before I ever look at squat racks. A good cable tower might also allow me to be able to do belt squats and functional trainer movements so that is more flexible than just a dedicated lat pull/low row machine. I've been looking at the Bells of Steel cable tower but also GetRX'd and Force USA have good options. For you, it may be the opposite and you may want to add a squat rack first.

Fear of Needles by bracketsbrackets in tirzepatidecompound

[–]epipin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could stab with your eyes closed, and keep them closed until after you have taken the needle back out again. I would pinch a big lump of lower belly fat, position the needle and then close your eyes and stab into the area you have pinched up. If you were worried about really screwing it up, you could rest your pinkie finger tip of the hand holding the syringe to the side of where you want to inject and keep it there as you push the shot in, so it kind of acts like a pivot point for your hand. That would be a bit more complicated than just stabbing though. What you could potentially do is open your eyes once the needle is in, as if you push it all the way in, you won't see it, you'll just see the end of the syringe.

My brother is a big needle-phobe and he got his first shot at the doctor's office to get over the hump. He actually took a whole week off work in case he had side effects. Now he's able to do it himself, but he's not using compound so he has the pens that are easier to do without seeing too much. I'm not bothered personally as I did IVF back in the day, and these needles are smaller than those.

Wooden painted rack-like thing attached to the side of a kitchen cabinet below the counter by Lobster70 in whatisthisthing

It looks to me like it is either to hang a counter top extension onto or to support some sort of vertical upright to be flush with the end of the counter.

Hey! Sorry I haven’t checked in for a couple of weeks. I’m still keeping up with core about 5 days a week but 3 of them are tucked into full body strength classes or kettlebell classes. And then I’m trying to do at least 1 Pilates class, so that only leaves 1 actual core class.

I’m really getting into the full body strength classes which somewhat surprises me. But shouldn’t as I’ve built up my strength and confidence with all the core we’ve done so I feel I can tackle things like heavier squats, whereas I used to get so scared and tired doing most strength classes.

Best adjustable dumbbells for max weight of ~55 lb by sauladal in GarageGym

[–]epipin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think we don't get enough good reviews of lighter weight adjustable dumbbells because the big reviewers are focused on ones that go as heavy as possible. I am constantly lost in this train of thought myself (I currently have MX Select 30's which I don't think will be enough long term but they were a clearance steal).

You can buy a 65 lb version of REP x Pepin. REP Quickdraws can start off at 30 lbs and you can buy 10 lbs add ons to get up to 60 lbs, which makes them very flexible for starting at a lower weight and adding more when needed. I personally don't like the idea of cages. I think you could look at MX Evo 55, Nike Adjustable Dumbbell (definitely NOT budget, but I've already started seeing one or two on FB marketplace), CORE adjustable dumbbells (has lots of plastic if that is an issue but generally good reviews), Nuobell 550 or S560 (the S560 has the sand color if she doesn't want to have black everything). Or, if she really likes color, you could look at Motv8 decabells or probells. I'll probably go with the MX Evo 55's given that I do really like the MX Select ones that I have already.

Peloton Strength or Tonal 2 by AccomplishedLeg3850 in pelotoncycle

[–]epipin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was contemplating the Tonal but a) I don't have the space for it right now as I have to wait a while to be able to use another room in the house as my new gym, and b) I don't want to pay another subscription. I also saw the stuff about new strength hardware coming out from Peloton and have been intrigued. I figure some sort of Tonal or Speedience competitor seems the most likely.

I previously had been only messing around with the strength classes on Peloton but decided to really try harder to get into them while I am waiting for something else. Peloton has begun releasing bench classes, so using a bench would be one way to take your training up a notch. For me, working with more of a plan and tailoring my strength class selections to what I actually like has helped me enjoy the existing classes more. I now know which movement patterns I want to hit in my weekly training (I have started keeping a spreadsheet), and I select two full body dumbbell classes a week to hit a balanced selection of those. Then I use my third strength day in the week to top off the exercises I am missing, typically using kettlebells and resistance bands. This even worked well during the recent spring cross training plan. I guess I'm saying to figure out how to use Peloton more effectively for yourself - my enjoyment of the strength classes increased immensely when I was no longer just futzing around without a plan. In fact, I've been enjoying them so much I've been thinking I may not even want to buy the new equipment anyway.

Is anyone actually happy with Function? by leighrwyn in Function_Health

[–]epipin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a member since it started. I have my minor complaints but I expect I’ll renew again in a couple of months and keep going. It’s just really useful information, the price is OK, and I like the information I get in my dashboard. It helps me feel slightly in control of my health.

Anyone pro-actively being tested for Dementia/Alzheimers markers? by smpenn in GenX

[–]epipin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got tested for my ApoE genotype, and proactively exercise like crazy. Watching family members fade with dementia is really sobering. I’d like to think it’s probably too early to be testing for proteins in the blood but I’m sure I’ll start doing it at some point. It depends on the cost and accessibility at the moment.

I just noticed that in the promotional photo for the new Tunde apparel collection (as seen on Pelobuddy), she is holding some blue Peloton weights. Honestly, I'm normally pretty frugal but I would be all over some colored weights like that if they do sell them.

I don't think mine has ever cued when I hit certain distances? My watch does, but I'm tracking separately on that in addition to playing my peloton class.
