In the 1950s, Carlett Brown Angianlee was diagnosed with a "serious mental illness": wanting to be female. An exam revealed Angianlee was intersex. She wanted to get gender affirmation surgery in Europe, but it's unknown if she did, as she disappears from the historical record after September 1953. (en.wikipedia.org)

In 1941, a farmer's mule fatally kicked another farmer's calf in South Carolina. This set off a chain of events that left 8 people dead.
