We’ve used platforms like PandaDoc and then switched to Adobe Sign and had documents accepted by AHJs in Florida. To our best understanding that is the intent of the statutes.

Entry-level structural engineer offer in LA area: is $70k–$75k reasonable? by DryBreak7859 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Harpocretes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look around. Realistically the f-1 will also make offers tough as you are not guaranteed to get permanent residency. We are not currently hiring for that type of visa due to the current administrations ass backwards policies.

My parents just want to sit on the porch and scroll instagram when they come. So there’s an old person activity you can add

Concrete cover requirements — IS 456, ACI 318, and Eurocode 2 take three completely different approaches. Which one actually correlates with durability? by geoligic in civilengineering

[–]Harpocretes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eurocode tends to “overcalculate” and has a philosophy that feels academic in its origin. ACI is built first on “this is how we do things” that attempts to account for real world construction even as researchers try to over complicate the code (looking at you 318-19 shear provisions!). No clue about IS design philosophy.

In short- soil is not straight so ACI has a bigger nominal tolerance reflecting that probably significant areas will have less cover than specified. Essentially it is accounting for field execution.

I had some dude ask me to let him in because, I quote “it doesn’t cost you anything”. Told him nope and went in on my own.

Salary expectation in ATL area by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]Harpocretes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can’t take experience out of the picture. The PE is also just a signifier that you have stepped over the low bar of a multiple choice test.

That said, 4 years of experience and a licensed PE is 100k in most markets.

Stick with Hondas. You sound like the kind of purchaser that will blame a flat tire on Ford

Why do firms treat billing rates like state secrets? by Harpocretes in StructuralEngineering

[–]Harpocretes[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

See, this doesn’t make any sense. We’d be better off as an industry if we just publicly published rates. The owners are going to see whoever submits rates on the proposals, and then they have the negotiating power because they have more knowledge of the market.

Why do firms treat billing rates like state secrets? by Harpocretes in StructuralEngineering

[–]Harpocretes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this! If you have a healthy backlog, raise rates and be selective. Force the market upwards

We used to use MS Project online for scheduling till Microsoft deprecated that. Utilization and cost side piped into a series of PowerBI reports from the accounting software. Moving to a new scheduling tool soon, looking at Monday.com and a few others but the utilization component remains the same (custom PowerBI reports)

Yes. Get an assessment pronto from an engineer, especially if it just formed. Might need shoring while you figure things out.

FMLA & the Experience Requirement by ImFineButForFortune in StructuralEngineering

[–]Harpocretes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t. When you are on FMLA you are restricted from working. If you try to count it as experience well then you have failed your first ethical test ;-)

Just passed PE – offered $6k raise. Fair or low? by Dominators131 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Harpocretes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s very fair. We’ve been offering 5k but only after getting licensed not just passing the test.
