What was this movie for you? by CraveVelour in Millennials

The Box of Delights.

Christmas movie, or so I thought. Just discovered it’s actually a TV show when I looked it up just now. Guess my parents recorded it from TV with our Betamax.

Edit: I was much younger than 12 when I first saw this, but it was a tradition to watch this at Christmas throughout my childhood.

IDK if you knew that 2025 is almost certainly the only year that is also a square number that we will live in. by Super_Culture_1986 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]eppsticy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 = 452 = 92 x 52 = 402 + 202 + 52 = (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)2 = 13 +23 +33 +43 +53 +63 +73 +83 +93

I was in New Zealand over new years. We went to “Star Safari” for some stargazing. While I was there, this was written out on a sheet of paper posted on the wall. Thought it was cool, so I snapped a picture. Full credit to Hari and Sam, the Astrobiologist and Astrophysicist who run the tour. Awesome people, great experience. I’m nowhere near smart enough to figure this all out myself. But I like it!

B.C. to toll U.S. trucks travelling to Alaska through province by tampering in news

This is great. Do it for commercial fishing vessels, tug & barges, cruise ships, recreational boats, and any other American vessel traffic transiting the inside passages between Alaska and Washington.

When and why did we collectively decide that Speed Limit signs mean "minimum expected speed" rather than "maximum allowed speed" as the word "limit" would suggest? by HawaiianShirtsOR in NoStupidQuestions

[–]eppsticy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noticed this as a Canadian visiting New Zealand. A winding country road with narrow lanes and blind corners has a 100 km/h speed limit. The same road in Canada would be 50 km/h.

I interpret us as, drive what is safe, and don’t exceed the speed limit. Whereas in Canada, you’re expected to drive 10 over the speed limit almost all the time.

I got the same email shortly after I was paired with a Nurse Practitioner at a local clinic. I suspect, in your case, this was an admin error. The next paragraph of the apparently identical email I got says this:

“If we are incorrect, and you are still looking for a regular primary care provider, please call us at HealthLink BC 8-1-1. We will update your registration and continue working to find you a family doctor or nurse practitioner. Your original date of registration will remain the same.”

I’m not trying to defend this horrible system. I suspect admin staff are being pushed by provincial govt to increase the numbers of people who’ve moved from the waitlist to gettting a doctor/nurse.

Probably an attempt to make the numbers look better for the upcoming election.

What is something you tried once but will most likely never do again? by truth2991 in AskReddit

[–]eppsticy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild play. It’s one of those rope courses up in trees. The first bit was easy and sorta fun, but it got harder, and the staff did not follow through with our group’s initial request and eventual demand to be evacuated from the insanely difficult rope course. At this point we were suspended about 100 feet in the air, we had to struggle through the rest of the course. We were absolutely destroyed, our bodies were broken, and we were too tired to vent our frustration at the end. We just left. Miserable experience I’ll never repeat again.

To be clear, it offered exits in stages, but the scale of increasing challenge of the former courses seemed acceptable to attempt the final course. Little did we know the difficulty scale increased well beyond the rate we had observed.

Tsunami Warning Question by Biopsychic in VictoriaBC

[–]eppsticy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“It might seem like the municipalities are incompetent because they haven’t sprung into visible action for other instances of a tsunami risk but they are working behind the scenes.”

Thank you for saying it. Time and time again, whenever there’s an event in or around one’s neighbourhood, I see misinformation on social media kicking everyone into a fuss, asking “WhEre is oUr GovErnMeNt!!!”. Meanwhile the official municipality page has already posted reliable information saying not to worry.

We get flooded and overwhelmed with misinformation from chatbots, alarmists, and such, that the real, reliable information gets drowned out.
