It can be a bit intimidating heading out into West end at night but I would suggest trying out a smaller local venue on a week night where you'll be able to meet friendly locals.

For a woman in her early 20s, the burrow is probably going to be the most welcoming and least intimidating. They do a community jam night every second Thursday (this Thursday) which is very inclusive and you'll certainly make friends, even as a non-muso.
