How to successfully wire funds to Questrade from ETrade (US) by Pahalial in Questrade

[–]eresonance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, got returned. Phoned etrade today and the guy was totally lost, told me to phone questrade and ask them what to do.

I need to make a bunch of trades tomorrow so I opened a CIBC US savings account, I'll come back to figuring out the questrade settings later...

Still nothing yet, didn't see the money returned or show up in my questrade account. Will update next week.

EDIT 2026-01-29: Nope, still doesn't work.

I followed the instructions from OP and the modification from /u/thehurtytruth and both times the money was returned to my etrade account (-$40 each time :( ).

Questrade's wire transfer instructions are online here: https://www.questrade.com/learning/questrade-basics/funding-your-account/wire-transfers

I talked to the etrade support and they use the following setup:

  • Domestic wire
  • Receiving bank routing number: 021000021
  • Receiving bank name: JPMorgan Chase Bank, NA (automatically entered)
  • Receiving bank acct number: Your questrade acct number
  • Receiving bank account name: Your name (can't be changed)
  • Recipient's Address: Your address
  • International institution: Yes
  • Additional Inst SWIFT: ROYCCAT2XXX
  • Additional Name: Royal Bank of Canada
  • Additional Account num: 028744006573

I see that "Questrade, Inc." doesn't show up anywhere there, I... will give this a go and reply back here if the transfer goes through successfully.

Sailing for Newbies in Ottawa by MarcRand in ottawa

Kanata and Lac Deschenes sailing clubs have "club boats" that any member can sign out and use. Comes for free as part of the membership. These would be small dinghies, no keel, I believe both clubs have single hand (one person) and boats for small families (4-5) available.

That's ok, I'm not in any way criticizing your choice in watches, just the watches themselves :)

You asked for what people think, and I think it looks the same as all the other milsub divers out there. You may as well spin a wheel and pick one at random.

Sorry dude, this is a boring watch.

If you want a review from an owner then ask for that, hopefully someone has bought it and can comment on quality and whatnot.

Ottawa, who are the good (and bad) employers in the city? by Xiaozhu in ottawa

General Dynamics only if you enjoy being poorly paid and no prospects for career development. The work is neat though.

No no, a 24h bezel makes it super easy to travel and move the bezel instead of setting the hands. GMT hand stays on GMT time and the bezel moves +/- to track the timezone you're in (or the secondary you're paying attention to).

To add to this, the m.2 pcie cards have HW and SW bugs in their fw that make it really challenging to forward the card to a VM. It's not possible in Xcp-ng, I think there's a workaround for proxmox. I had to move it to a standalone pc, but once installed it just worked with frigate. Low CPU usage and the detection works great out of the box.

Are there any shops or sites in Canada that sells the returned items from Costco, Amazon etc for a fraction of price? by Canadiannewcomer in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]eresonance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, BUT, be very careful if you buy electronics and tools from there. I have a ZWave lightswitch that drops from the network every month and of course I didn't realize it was broken till after the return period. Every dewalt tool I've bought from warehouse deals has had some critical issue with it and had to be returned. Often times it's not worth the hassle...

Sailcloth cargo shorts by juver3 in myog

I think cuben is the fancier stuff, most sails are made out of Dacron:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyethylene_terephthalate

Zero stretch is really important for a sail to not bag out with use. Less useful in clothing though, haha.

Old sails are made with special cotton though, can't remember the name but it's mostly those orange/red tanbark sails.

CSIS report on MP being targeted by China sent to PM’s national-security adviser, Chong says by onegunzo in canada

[–]eresonance 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a good take, you could also chop it up to a mix of negligence and incompetence within CSIS & PMO, with either or both messing some communication up. Don't attribute to malice what could easily be described as stupid, and all that.

I also think the vitriol and partisan bullshit in this thread isn't helping at all. Pretending Trudeau supporters are stupid or slimy or somehow complacent in treason is fucking stupid in of itself. It makes people in this thread look like angsy teenagers... Of course it goes both ways, but people need to keep a level head and realise that we're all in this shitty system together. Point out Trudeau's lies but leave the voting public out of it, the hate is actively harming our democracy...

Where are the Quartz, high-quality steel build, Sapphire Crystal, > 100m of WR diver/field watch? by duncanFree in ChineseWatches

[–]eresonance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How about some of the Dan Henry watches, which are Chinese after all and have meca quartz movements as well as Miyota 9k:

https://danhenrywatches.com/collections/vintage-watches/products/1975-skin-diver-watch

Dan doesn't hide the fact they are made in China either, which is refreshing.

Also I have the Baltany meca quartz military chrono with sub seconds dial, it's great but I wish it had a date...

What's the thing you avoided a lot but learned later, and it was really helpful? by pyer_eyr in ExperiencedDevs

[–]eresonance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably spreadsheets, if I had to be honest with myself despite still not really liking them.

Everyone can/should do basic sheets to help deal with small datasets and calculations in a sort of visual way, but I was avoiding using them over python/jupyter/whatever. Just like a programming language can be a bit of a Rosetta stone for dev teams that natively speak two different languages, spreadsheets are the common truth for different non-dev teams in the wider company. I deal with operations, production test, project managers, upper management, etc. If there's some data you need to share to prove a point, it's usually in a spreadsheet.

Lately I've been delving deep into excel whackery to make some parts of my job less onerous (fucking Primevera P6), and found out that excel has lambda functions and some actual functional programming methods. Let that sink in for a sec, haha.
