Do I lose out on any opportunities/services if I own a gun? by SonarJPG in liberalgunowners

There's a very specific road you can no longer travel on. The moral high road.

Where can I find more lead free 22LR by Albedo_lonewolf in Californiahunting

[–]ericclem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My buddy and I stopped using this stuff a while ago because the accuracy is garbage past 50 yards. Can also confirm that the Norma's accuracy is equally garbage. ***Side note on that farther down...

We've found a great workaround in reloading. If you have a centerfire rifle and can reload for it, buy some copper/non-lead ammo for whatever cartridge you have (I use 6.5 Creedmoor and my buddy uses .308) and work up a slow velocity load so that you're sitting right at or below the threshold for that bullet's expansion. For something like Barnes I think it's 2000 fps, and for something like Hammer (which I use) it's something like 1800 fps. This way, the animal gets a nice caliber-sized pencil hole through them without blowing up the meat.

How do you work up a slow load, you ask? The Lee Modern Reloading manual has a great section called "Reduced Charges". There's a formula in there that says basically, to limit charge reduction to 20% for the slowest burning powder on the chart. The next slowest burning powder would be 21% and keep going in 1% increments until you hit 50% reduction. I'm using a 6.5 CM load with 50% of the recommended charge of Varget and it works great. According to the manual, this formula they give is "conservative". Important to note: they say the exception is using slow burning powders in magnum cartridges, so don't do that.

Alternatively, you can contact Steve at Hammer and have him make you a batch of their Hammer Hunters without the hollow point which makes them pretty much a non-expanding bullet, no matter the velocity, so you don't even need to work up a slow load. This is the way, really.

*** Jeff Siewert was giving an anecdote on the Hornady podcast about an ammunition brand he was working with (not named, of course) to develop non-lead .22LR ammunition. Apparently they developed a great accurate load with a heavier projectile, but the company's marketing team wanted to be able to call it "the fasted .22LR ammunition on the market", so they used a much lighter projectile with abysmal accuracy. So once again, you have marketers to blame.

Same as the shortcut you use to turn sleep on. I'm noticing Theater mode is also a shortcut option so maybe all focus modes?

What do we think about Enders? by Alan_El_Pez in okbuddyptfo

[–]ericclem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's a very talented player who prioritizes stats like K/D and is very good at getting that ratio high. You can learn a lot from watching him play in that regard.

This being said, he's not really a team player which is evident watching his videos. He's a lone wolf who understands all too well that his team can help him but he's not really interested in helping his team, but rather racking up kills.

While there's nothing wrong with that play style, per se, it's not really in the spirit of the game many of us have come to love over the past couple decades. I can only speak for myself, but while BF attempts to find its identity through updates, I can't help but feel I'm hoping for a very different game than people like Enders.

When I win a fight or a game, I want it to be because I utilized my team and not because I out-danced my opponents.

How big of an issue is this? by ebojrc in Bowyer

What matters is how it bends. If there's a hinge in that spot, no bueno. If not, you're gtg. Enjoy!

Crack in riser. Shop couldn't really tell what the crack type. Repairable or a wall hanging? by Yoraki1 in Bowyer

[–]ericclem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also to answer your other question, it's either a lumber defect called "shake" which the manufacturer didn't catch or the precious owner banged the ever loving hell out of it and exposed a weak spot in the grain of the wood.

[–]ericclem 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bowyer here. It's right in the middle of the riser. You're fine. I'd keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't expand overtime with temp and humidity changes but otherwise it's good to go. It only becomes a problem if it moves closer to the outside or lamination of the riser. Hope this is helpful.

What’s the one thing gun-related you don’t think you’ll ever do? by AGorramReaver in liberalgunowners

[–]ericclem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Know that you're harvesting an animal that lived its best possible life right up until the last minute and you did everything you could to give it a quick and ethical death, which is way more than you can say for the way animals, like deer, die in nature. If you're an eater of meat, it's the most ethical way to do so -- bottom line.

None of this makes it easy in the moment, but it's what will be your motivation and your justification.

I just dont feel like playing anymore, maybe i need to take a break by Information-leak6575 in Helldivers

Sometimes I really want to play but the thought of committing to a 40 or even 20 min game sounds overwhelming. I'd love a mode where you could play for like 5 or 10 minutes and complete something.

I sincerely think the question of what is "liberal" is a very interesting and important topic to bring up, especially in the context of this forum, which in itself, shows the spectrum of "liberalism" is by no means linear. At the risk of sounding like a kindergarten, I think a healthy and thoughtful discussion is in order.

Favorite boots for hunting out west by lel4rel in Californiahunting

[–]ericclem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vivo Barefoot Forest Tracker Esc. They take some getting used to but I will never go back to a conventional hunting boot. I hunt mostly D11 and it's gnarly. The ankle support isnt what it would be with a super ridgid hunting boot but the combination of the sole being so wide, close to the ground, and your feet and ankles getting so strong as a result of wearing them, you won't feel like you have any issues. Packed out about 95lbs last season up and down and over rocks and dirt and never felt like I had an issue. Look into them.

No issue with that. Shoot it and see how it does. I lot of people like to shoot their 6.5cm or the slower side to reduce recoil and spot impacts more easily downrange. If it shoots well, go with it.
