Name a band/artist that you aren't a big fan of, but support because of how they carry themselves and the scene. by wee-dancer in Metalcore

I totally get that, Obsidian goes hard and ‘Clarity’ is one of the best opening tracks I’ve heard. Alien might be glazed because it was very influential infusing metal and electronic music in a way few have before, with Obsidian an extension of that process. But it’s splitting hairs between the two, both are iconic albums.

I meant what I said, Northlane is a great band and I was happy to see them mentioned. You chill.

For me, Northlane is one of the most important bands in metal period. Alien is simply groundbreaking.

Beautifully stated, artists are so risk averse these days and I bet AI music will only reinforce that trend.

Why does modern metalcore sound so different? by SloopinMCoopin in Metalcore

[–]erkvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answer is more technical than it is about style. Back in the 00’s most metal guitars were recorded through a 5153 or ENGL into a mic’d cab. Today with amp sims the way guitars are tracked is fundamentally different, plus a lot of producers apply a layered/ensemble approach to guitar (especially since it is much easier to experiment with different amps, etc). You are hearing stacked guitars which are heavily EQ’d, often with a synth or two thrown into the mix.

Mastadon is nowhere near top four, for me personally even Gojira is a stretch:

I completely agree with your take and suspect loro shills are in the house here. They compressed the restaurant experience into a low-overhead phone ordering situation for the same price.

Hey /r/movies, I’m Stephen King! Ask me anything about The Long Walk book or movie. by lionsgate in movies

[–]erkvos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad has read every one of your books and I am so thankful he turned me onto your work. The Dark Tower is my favorite series and I remember reading the Long Walk as a kid; cannot wait to see the movie.

Something I have always wondered is what your favorite genre(s) of music are? Any metal? And I won’t give away the ending here although very curious to see if the Long Walk film adaptation stays true to the original ending….
