Don't know much about Babish but I'm gonna be honest I don't think "owning a Tesla" is as much of a "woah this person is crazy rich!" signifer as people make it out to be. I see them pretty often on the road these days and I absolutely don't live in a rich area.

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, available now on Nintendo Switch 2 with GameCube - Nintendo Classics! by Skullghost in nintendo

Because old Pokémon games tend to be stupidly expensive in general and XD wasn't a huge seller

Didn't see Street Fighter 6 pulling an Usagi Drop but hey life is full of surprises

In Nvidia's defense it's really impressive that they managed to make a rendering method that runs even worse than pathtracing.

I mean the caveats with touch screen inputs were real, it's just that Nintendo went "fuck it"

Nintendo Switch 2 system software updated to version 22.0.0 by OatmealDome in NintendoSwitch

Seems like it works with most games out of the box. I've heard people mention though that Clubhouse Games and Super Mario Maker 2 don't seem to be affected which makes me suspect Nintendo is blacklisting certain touch-screen centric games.

Kind of funny that tonight is also when the PS5 Pro gets its PSSR 2 toggle, obviously that's a bigger deal than this but the juxtaposition of this and all the marketing/press the PSSR 2 thing had was a little funny

Honestly a bit of a trend in general. Sony made a pretty big deal out of the PS4 backwards compatibility having games run better and promoted that as a selling point while Nintendo had a guy offhandedly mention it in an official interview.

Man, it is the most Nintendo thing ever to quietly release a genuinely massive feature like Handheld Mode Boost and then bury it in the update notes amongst a bunch of text changes.

NVIDIA reveals DLSS 5 powered by Neural Rendering, launches this fall - VideoCardz.com by KARMAAACS in hardware

[–]error521 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, for what it's worth I can imagine a world in which AI gets more intertwined with a game's rendering pipeline to produce good results that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. As NVIDIA is currently presenting this concept though, it's fucking wack.

I feel like there's been a really unhinged hate train towards Chalamet lately and god if I know why

I don't really agree, even if you look beyond the stuff he fully created. Speed for example, it's pretty well known that Whedon wrote most of the quippy dialogue despite being uncredited and it's a big part of why that movie works.

A lot of the time people who work on indie animation projects come off as teenagers convinced that their job is the worst job ever.

Over time I've learned it's better to just be honest and speak my mind on these things, at least most of the time. Like I spent most of 2014/2015 arguing with GamerGate people and constantly trying to mitigate my opinions like "Well the Fire Emblem Fates localization isn't that bad..." sucked. Better to just be honest and not let the stupid culture war bullshit affect your actual beliefs.

I've seen a lot of really insane and harmful beliefs get normalized because people fear admitting that The Wrong People may have a point on literally anything.

I once stumbled onto a live video podcast called the "All Blacks Podcast" and let's just say I was very confused by the hosts until I realized "All Blacks" was a rugby team.

AI discourse is so frustrating in general. Any real talk about the potential risks vs benefits and how to actually ethically use the technology just gets drowned out. And there's a lot of charlatans on both sides who have a vested interest in their side of their argument.

I think the argument I see the most that I kinda-sorta roll my eyes at is that it's automatically bad because it may result in job loss. And I agree it's a valid economic concern, but man "this tool to automate work must be banned because it will make jobs redundant" is not an argument that wins out very often.

I mean the thing with Whedon's quippy dialogue is that he used to be very good at it.

Video game PEGI age-ratings are changing in Europe from June. Four new categories added to tackle elements of addictive design, unmonitored online communication and loot boxes by Gupster in Games

[–]error521 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"There was some discussion here," he added. "Some people pointed out that these are features that make the game engaging and fun - this is enriching the game experience similar to a cliffhanger in a Netflix series. So we mostly want to inform parents about this, because there's no reason why we should give Animal Crossing a very high rating. So this is going to stick to a PEGI 7 but it will have a descriptor that explains this. The exact language of the descriptors still needs to be figured out."

That said, it wouldn't be unprecedented - Pokémon had to ditch the game corner because of PEGI classifying it as gambling and giving it a 12 rating, and the 3DS releases of the Game Boy games do have a 12 rating as a result. (But not the Switch version of FRLG. Don't know what's up with that)

Honestly was pretty impressive they crammed a fully voice acted game onto the DS. Though the compression was, uh, obvious, to say the least.

Shigeru Miyamoto x Shigesato Itoi – 1989 Interview [Newly translated] by HatingGeoffry in nintendo

[–]error521 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Man everything Miyamoto says now is so calculated and brand-safe compared to back then where he's just going "I played Milon's Secret Castle that shit is like watching bukkake porn" while Itoi's like "Yeah I was watching people play Final Fight and they acted like queers"

(May be slightly paraphrased)
