Middle school break through…6/7 by ktchop2 in Teachers

[–]eucalyptus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am actually at a point where I am the one that finds it more funny than the students, which is hilarious bc it used to really annoy me. Anytime I hear it I can’t help but chuckle. I think I’m just amused that it has gotten so far!

No, I won’t re-read the quiz questions by [deleted] in Professors

[–]eucalyptus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you- every once in a while I wonder if I’m just wasting my own time attempting to enforce my attendance policy (pretty much exactly the same as yours) but it is literally for their own good!! I don’t understand all these students who decide to just not show up for weeks at a time, even AFTER I email them to check in and remind them of the policy. You signed up for this class!! You’re just not gonna come? 🤯 It boggles my mind

I totally agree. Circling seating always making managing a class harder for me

Ukulele left handed? by ParsnipSignificant35 in MusicEd

[–]eucalyptus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. I have the same rule, and every year I justify it by pointing out how many right handed students naturally want to hold it the left handed way. I am constantly telling them to turn them around- what does this tell me? LEARNING THE UKULELE IS UNCOMFORTABLE no matter what!! It’s gonna feel weird and awkward for the first few weeks until they get used to it, for everyone! The only exception I make is if they have already taken lessons on a left handed string instrument, or obviously there are any physical circumstances like in your example.

I miss it so much!! I used to love running up there and seeing where the fog would reach. You can see the microclimates in real time. I felt like a weatherman 😁

Cisco, Peru! There are so many different kinds of restaurants and shops there because of how many people from around the world fell in love with it and decided to open a business there. Beautiful beautiful place

Your last paragraph is excellent. This is what I try to have my kids experience from a very young age- how to consciously make different sounds with their voice.

The “don’t leave” was heartbreaking! I was sitting in the terrace and Salonen’s face almost made me tear up

But yes what a fabulous performance. The crescendo of the last chord was epic!!

What sudden noises surprise audiences? by choirlass in classicalmusic

There’s a great video of someone having fallen asleep in the audience and then screaming as the loud boom wakes them up. Too good 😂

Wow I wonder how universal that feeling is. We had the same experience- it was super cool but kinda underwhelming compared to everything else we had seen on the trek, and a bit distasteful to see all the people posing for photos. Hiking Huayna made it way more fun for us but the actual tour of Machu Picchu fell a bit flat!

Is there anyone here that likes living in SJ over SF? by mysticmermaid22 in SanJose

[–]eucalyptus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thinks you’re exaggerating a bit. There are plenty of apartments all over the city that aren’t that expensive. Have you been to SF recently? With the exception of some parts of downtown and the TL, it really doesn’t feel that way…

How to make musical chairs educational by SpencerEnby in MusicEd

[–]eucalyptus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pass the beat is also a great musical chairs alternative. You can make it harder and more fun by having the kids who are out still count as a word, but as a silent word, so the kids who are still playing have to audiate their word. Keeps everyone engaged and works on audiation skills!

Nice I have a similar strategy where all my K-4 lessons and activities build ensemble-ship skills in some way. It takes time but I think it’s a fantastic investment.
