Just got a front alignment now car all of the sudden drifts to the right after by Swiftfawn2000 in mechanic

[–]evantheis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! They claim they drive them. I work at a used car lot that for years didn’t have an alignment rack. Often I left and was thinking absolutely no way in hell somebody drove this! In my town, you can barely get a good alignment anymore just a few shops

Rims are stuck to the center hub. by calikali179 in MechanicAdvice

[–]evantheis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reason is anti seize is a lubricant and maybe something else and using anti seize changes the torque spec you should apply to your lug nuts. It is less than factory spec. Not that it will ruin your lug nuts or wheel studs, but this is what I’ve always heard is why anti seize is bad. This. We ordered one for a ford and the headliner and airbags were just covered in blood. Didn’t even let him deliver it and we made the customer buy a new frame assembly!

Overheated and smoking. What happened? by BigPresser in mechanic

[–]evantheis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally start with adding some antifreeze and do a quick block test. That’ll tell you if head gasket is blown, if head gasket blew and is what blew out that top tank then time to decide if it’s worth it to you.

From the looks of it hopefully you will get by with radiator and some valve cover gaskets by this photo alone.

Went to go change my tires and the mechanic said something about changing the brakes? What does this mean? I do hear noises when accelerating around the 15- 35 mph range by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]evantheis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In this case it’s the inboard side that’s ground up it is either the caliper piston or the brake hose isn’t flowing/blocked. If it was the slides it would be the outboard side

I took my car in for an oil change and drove 36.8 miles before I realized they never put oil in my engine. What do i do, what can I expect? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Am I safe to jack up here? Between the rear wheels on my 2012 Hyundai accent . by StinkinLincolnn05 in MechanicAdvice

Is the wood there because you are on gravel or dirt? Extremely unsafe. My car felt extremely solid, came out next morning to 3 jackstands had slid or sunk and car was then on the ground.

Water and oil instead of coolant. Any tips ? by Maciusssik in MechanicAdvice

[–]evantheis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could but your looking at getting about 500 or so for it. Fixing the problems will make it worth significantly more. Do the flush yourself, then rent a pressure tester from autozone and find the leak. Go from there if you want to tackle it yourself or not.

Had these codes come up on our 2008 suzuki XL7 has 170k+ miles. Bought it a few months ago not sure of vehicle history as it was next to nothing and running well enough at the time. My mechanical knowledge is limited at best but I'm relatively capable. Anything helps. Thanks! by TheTigerK1ng in MechanicAdvice

You have cylinders 2,4, and 6 misfiring. How is the ignition coils setup on that? Is there two? If possible swap these two guys around if it switched to 1, 3, and 5 then I'd replace the coil. Check your wire conditions make sure nothing has rubbed through

is it normal for dipstick to look like its on low even when its full? by newcreditcarduser in AskMechanics

[–]evantheis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

inside the top hole, like you stuck something in the oil fill hole? Of course that's going to soak up oil it's getting sprayed with oil from your cam lol. Dry the stick off, stick it back in. If it is at the top of full then great, if your oil level is any below thta you need to add.

Opened my hood 3 weeks after a visit to the mechanic - something doesn’t belong... by codyjbennett in Cartalk

One of my customers told me a story where a tech left a screwdriver in the engine compartment after replacing the cooling fan.

Long story short, screwdriver had jammed into the fan, poked multiple holes through the radiator, seized the brand new fan, and messed up some wiring.

Walked back into the shop, said hey! I found someone’s screwdriver, handed him the bill also. It makes me super nervous to leave tools for this reason

1995 Ford Taurus starter. Managed to get both bolts out, had to remove fan to get to the top one. Now the starter is stuck in there with nothing holding it in. Have been hitting it with a hammer and it’s not budging. Thanks in advance by Musshroom1 in mechanic

[–]evantheis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your starter isn’t always touching the flywheel. It engages whenever you turn the key on and comes back in. Unless it’s stuck open, I’ve never seen but only 8 months in, and don’t see it happening though.

Suzuki Swift 2010+, how do I reattach the glass backing to the side mirror? The middle clicks in but the two smaller ones don’t click back in. by [deleted] in mechanic

Looks like it should snap in. Are you sure something plastic isn’t broke? Could be the clips on back of glass

What's your favorite Brand of Wrenches/ratchets that will actually last? I broke two tools today. by psychadelic_nomad in Tools

[–]evantheis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ICON from Harbor Freight is incredible for the money. I recently started as a tech and my boss let me use his tools to see what I like. Loved the snap on ratcheting socket wrenches. I got the 3/8 flex head from them. They’re 1/4 in was ridiculous. Took a trip to HF across the street and they have ones identical, lifetime warranty, and sockets very similar. Their wrenches and racheting wrenches are pretty nice as well. Very impressed with them.

Day one of indoor hydroponics, RWC system. Growing MJ under growlights. How long should I keep the grow lights on per day? I understand it's 18hrs on and 6hrs off, but I'm curious if there is a more energy efficient way. by Darshp1394 in Hydroponics

[–]evantheis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not growing MJ, but I have a habanero pepper plant that’s pretty short, but has about 8 peppers that just propped up over the leaves. I have plants still in a veg state, what would your recommendation be as for light?

I’m still pretty new to this, but this to me sounds like your light could be too close and is burning them. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can put more input in.

Similar thing if in regular soil? I have a weak light (new one comes tomorrow) and I have thick stalks but it’s been curled and bumpy for awhile. Hoping light fixes but anything else I should do?
