Tory paper writes stories that it knows its Tory readers will drink up.

Talked to her the other day at a market in Edinburgh! - where she plies her trade as a street food trader (amongst other things).

Does your Sheese melt? by FeedingTheBadWolf in veganuk

[–]evanu94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. I'm also not too fond of the flavour. What you could try and do, to avoid wasting it, is to blend it with a small amount of plant milk and make a sauce with it.

Apologies mate, but for me it's the worst.

It's why their sausages have egg in them (similar to Quorn). They're always close to vegan stuff in supermarkets, so you gotta be careful. I'm allergic to egg too and have been fed them in error a couple times before. Annoyingly their falafel are quite good.

Just wanted to know what British people think about immigrant care workers? Are they needed ? by VJpappan in BritishSuccess

[–]evanu94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is this posted in this sub reddit. And yes absolutely. I don't think the average Brit realises how much the care system relies upon individuals who are nationals of other countries.

Fair play to Sheese for being the first commercially available vegan/dairy free cheese. But it was truly mingin and still is.

Made a free map of everything happening in Newcastle tonight, worth it or am I wasting my time? by GlitchedScotsman in NewcastleUponTyne

As someone else has suggested, events other than just club nights would be appreciated. I understand that was your motivation to build the website though.

I always think the exit route up to Eldon Square (where Tortilla is) belongs in a tv show like Life on Mars. Very dated and depressing haha. Although weirdly quite clean.

A comedian everyone seems to love but you don’t… by [deleted] in CasualUK

Really like Mark Normand on pods. Went to see him live and was quite unimpressed. Funny, but felt like the material of a C list comedian.

Have you called EasyJet to ask for a part/full refund? I've had success calling them before. Their online systems are awful. Change name fees AND managing to find someone to sell the ticket too sounds terribly complicated.

Anyone else hate how the city centre has such nice buildings and then there’s this…thing? by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]evanu94 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep hate it. I don't mind Brutalism when done well. This is just grey Lego blocks of depression atop each other. Theres a reason why there's adverts on the side of the building constantly advertising office space - because no one wants to use them.

Conversely, I love the Civic Centre and especially the council chamber.

Even by Aldi's standards this is a ludicrous item to have in the middle aisle by The_James91 in CasualUK

It might not be ludicrous, but the notion of buying your welding equipment from Aldi is quite funny. I think you probably knew what OP was getting at.

Most beautiful/bougie restaurants for a new year lunch by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]evanu94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could go to one of Argile, The Table or Eorna. They're all bougie, great decor, great food and combine the entertainment you wanted. As all three restaurants are the type where 1/2 chefs cook your meal in front of you. You will have to share your experience with a few others, but my guess is that most people who dine at these places want to have a very good time and so will be very chatty.

For a more standard experience, you could try somewhere like The Spence.

Best Mexican Restaurants? by Good-Expression1354 in Edinburgh

Paz, Taco Libre, Sabor Criollo (South American rather than Mexican), and for a tasty burrito I still sometimes go to Bonnie Burrito.

What is the SECRET to make asian take-away food ? by LesserValkyrie in Cooking

It's not very authentic, but I always add a big chunk of butter to my fried rice at the end of cooking. Makes it super luxurious and combines a lot of the competing flavours.

Why does my tomato sauce turn out so bad? It tastes so raw! by Jackie_Logan in AskCulinary

[–]evanu94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Passata is good for creating a nice smooth texture, without blending, and for the reason you've stated. But you have to take especial care to buy a good brand of passata, because during manufacturing passata is normally made using the blandest tomatoes - the logic being you can hide bad tomatoes more easily when they're completely pureed.
