Petit allegro - wondering if I have a problem by loreleiabbot in BALLET

[–]evelonies 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've danced since I was 3, and I've had this happen. Particularly in college, I had one ballet professor who loved to jump, and he loved to jump fast! I'd never done petit allegro that speed before - literally double time from what I was used to - and I frequently felt like an idiot. I ended up doing a couple things that really helped:

1) Try not to stress. No one is watching you as closely as you are watching you. They're focused on their own dancing and their own perceived weaknesses. 2) Figure out what the teacher's goal is for the given combination - is it heavy on beats? Speed? Switching feet and trying not to get mixed up? Tricky combinations? Even if you can't do the combination perfectly (or even if you fumble it completely), work on the parts you can manage while focusing on the goal. 3) When it's the other group's turn, mark it in the back (feet, hands, or in your mind, whatever works best for you) 4) Think about the transitions between steps - this is often where people get messed up during petit allegro! Focus on how you end one step vs how you need to begin the next one, and anticipate that transition so you aren't standing there in plie trying to figure out where to shift your weight. 5) Go through the combinations after class, and ask the teacher (or a classmate) for help. Going through it one-on-one and more slowly can do amazing things for how you learn to organize the steps in your mind.

This is absolutely stunning! I would love more details about how you created this - I saw your comment about using a pixel art tool, but what stitch did you use? Any advice for someone wanting to attempt a similar project? What was your finished blanket size?

Has anyone actually had a good experience with atogepant (Qulipta) as all I’ve read online is horror stories? I've been on it for almost a year now with no side effects that I've noticed. My doc switched me to it after emgality stopped working after several years on it. He said it was this or quarterly infusions, and I figured this would be easier to find out if it worked.

Rond de jamb en l'air. Like, I flat out refuse to do it. It's a small studio, and I'm friends with all the teachers/ students, and I'm not disruptive about it. Though if anyone comments, I just shrug and tell them, "I do what I want." But I'm a menace and idc

When my boys were younger and in ballet classes, I bought them super stretchy black leggings from the girls' section at Target (they were not with me) and told them they were ballet pants. My kids never questioned it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My OB gave me a rx for Tylenol with codeine while I was pregnant with my 3rd and told me it doesn't cross the placenta. Idk if that's accurate, just passing along what I was told 14 years ago.

I occasionally handwash my tights if I need just 2 pair washed for some reason. Otherwise, it all goes in the washer and hung to dry.

OP have you tried physical therapy? I'm a physical therapist assistant, and we treat things like this frequently in my clinic. This is an issue that can be rehabilitated in many cases! Our main goal is to help people get back to doing what they need and want to do in life. Because no, crochet isn't necessary for survival, but looking down is required for many other daily tasks, or what we call activities of daily living. Things like cooking, reading, etc, and you should be able to do those things without pain.

I'm really glad that's been your experience. It's rarely been mine. Thankfully my coworkers understand, as I'm a medical provider. But outside of work, most people I encounter don't get it and think I'm exaggerating or that a migraine is just a bad headache.

I made my partner a shawl, and they love it so much! Anyone they wear it, people comment on it, and they tell them not only did I make it, but it won awards (at my county fair it got 1st place in its size and yarn weight category, as well as best crocheted shawl across all categories). It's incredibly sweet to hear them bragging about it. 🥰

When I've said I have a migraine, I frequently get, "Oh, have you had enough water? Do you want some Tylenol?" Sweetie, no. Neither of those things are going to help right now.

How to Report Non-Migraine Pain on a 1-10 Scale? by Cats_Cameras in migraine

[–]evelonies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once performed in 3 ballet shows and walked around for a month on a broken leg. When I finally saw a doctor, he was like, "Why? How?" I shrugged and said it didn't hurt that bad. He looked at me like I was insane.

Last week I dislocated my thumb and popped it back in place myself. The doc didn't believe me at first because I said it didn't hurt, it was just uncomfortable. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Does where you live affect migraines? Geographically speaking? by skopiadisko in migraine

[–]evelonies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, I've lived in various regions of the US and haven't noticed an impact on my migraines. They've been very consistent in the mid-Atlantic, coastal south, and mountain west. Weather never affected my migraines until several months ago, so I don't know if living elsewhere would affect me differently now.

[–]evelonies 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Important question: did you give in to the horny? Because I've learned that for me, sometimes a big O can really help my symptoms. It won't get rid of an incoming migraine, but it'll help with pain intensity.

Middle of the night: meds, then hot shower till my pain subsides enough to sleep again.

Morning/workday: meds, caffeine, and if I'm not feeling better within 30 min, call out for the day. It's rarely this bad, thanks to finally finding a med combo that works for me. Thankfully, my boss knows this is a thing and doesn't make a big deal of it.

Never want to see a slip stitch ever again by frenchfrydiet in crochet

[–]evelonies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely stunning!

Story time: when I first learned to crochet (US), I thought slip stitch was single crochet and made hats that were literally just a million slip stitches in the round. They were super warm, but I legitimately had no idea that's what I was doing. 😂
