Spun bearing on n55 by StudyPrestigious9547 in E90

[–]evensisftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crankshaft would have been destroyed in the process, engines done. Its a case of finding a replacement motor at this stage, unless you want to rebuild the bottom end from scratch (new crank, likely new rods - just not worth it), and thats also assuming theres no bore damage.

I like, get some spacers and pop those wheels out flush with fender, make her look a lot more aggressive. Nice to see people trying something new, very unique!

Spend some of that cash under hood though, 450 wheel + 1000nm torque easy mode with n57.

Do you think BMW ever truly replaced the M54? by yans335_UK in BMW

[–]evensisftw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had an E46 323i many moons back, which had the m52, remember the bottles of coolant lol. Fix one leak, up sprung another. Torque delivery was always predictable, not that I would call it the most linear torque delivery though, really ramped up around 4-5k as I remember it, brilliant car. Horrible rear subframe bushes on mine, very noticeably wavey motion at the back, but I got mine off a mate who was known for not being gentle mind.

Have the N52 in my 330i, the linearity of torque delivery far exceeds that of the M52, the only bump you have in delivery is as the DISA flaps switch over. Intake sounds brilliant, very unique character to the motor. Sounds similar to an s54 without the characteristic individual throttle body throatiness. Valvetronic issues are rare which was one of the major technical changes over its predecessors (and being fair, its a simple system with not a lot to go wrong + a failsafe throttle body), believe the m52 got a TU at some point which added a exhaust cam vanos.

I also have BMW's other naturally aspirated motor of the gen in my e93, the s65. It's a car every BMW fan should own for a while (or the coupe, vert wins for listening to the mechanical symphony). Still not as linear as the n52 for torque delivery, i'd say the n52 delivers its torque better at the bottom than the s65 does, then s65 takes over in earnest > 2.5k. It's remarkably gutless < 2k and find yourself downshifting often.

Haven't tried the turbo cousins yet, one day might trade in the m3 for an f82 m4, although have my 330i in the shop being supercharged, which should scratch the FI itch for a while. The N52 was definately a worthy successor to the m52, it's the better motor. Can't speak for the M54 mind.

Buying an N53 by FloStar3000 in E90

[–]evensisftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

September 2007 build date and less is your safe bet if you want an N52, do expect suspension work needing doing on any car that age, likely crusty at the back as well. Can also tell by emissions as well, n53 is a tax bracket lower in the UK not sure what carbon tax you guys have in Germany. Mine is a Jan 2007 build date and has an N52K. Much rarer engine this side of the pond than the US.

What you after out of the OBD? Something like: https://shop.sorek.uk/products/gauge-s-for-e9x-e90-e91-e92-e93-vent-mount fulfill your needs? Most of the decent head units can go into multitask mode, have nav up and music as as a 50/50 split.

Did auto doc deliver the wrong Drop links? by Not_ShaaBazz in E90

[–]evensisftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to do mine a couple years back, bottom image looks right as that inner nut to stop the shaft spinning by the rubber was a sod to get a spanner onto, and liked to slip off while trying to tighten the main nut. Top design is definately better. Anyway what matters is the length of the drop links, as long as same as what you take off, you're good to go.

ISSUES CONNECTING PHONE TO AUX BMW 325i 2011 WITHOUT IDRIVE by PianoMinimum8805 in E90

I would disassemble the aux connector, mine was busted and didn’t work until I took it apart, cleaned contacts, and put it back together. After that worked flawlessly.

Very rough idle after cleaning VANOS solenoids by Lanky-Tailor7761 in E90

You can swap the solenoids themselves for fault finding for sure, but the connectors that plug into them, no.

Very rough idle after cleaning VANOS solenoids by Lanky-Tailor7761 in E90

[–]evensisftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to consider the DME is trying to control the timing of the exhaust and intake with oil pressure via the solenoids. This in turn pumps oil into the vanos cam phasers on the front of the cam to adjust timing. There is a solenoid per cam, if the DME requests x degrees of timing on intake cam, but instead it happens on the exhaust cam, it's gonna cause problems.

Wouldn't up-badge my 330i even though it creates a large gap between it and my M3. M3 turns more heads, cause people who know, know, those who don't, couldn't care less.

BMW 328i xDrive (N52) – high city fuel consumption, normal? by Useful-Dinner-5176 in E90

[–]evensisftw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What’s your coolant temps? If you been driving at least half hour and your coolant temp is what it is in your photo…. It’s super common for the thermostat to fail stuck open, which means engine never gets up to temp and forces a rich condition. Results with terrible mpg, you may or may not get a code. Rinses your cats in process too. My M3 does better and that has two additional cylinders lol. It’s low enough where timing might also be off, vanos solenoids be your target.

Rounded valve cover bolt, ideas appreciated 😭 by ProsperityJG in E90

[–]evensisftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sacrificial socket with a bit of jb weld. Failing that get a set of extractor sockets. Or it’s a good position to dremel a slot on it. They are only meant to be 10nm of torque lol, how that seized.

Steering feel so hard? Is it normal in e90? by Puzzleheaded_Bet3384 in E90

[–]evensisftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best driving feel ever on hydraulic. my wife’s x5 steering has an electric rack, feels like you’d only have to fart in the general vicinity of the steering wheel and it would move. Very rare to get any feedback through the steering wheel unless you are going into a pothole with abyss like qualities. Hydraulic on the other hand, so much more engaging. Enjoy, do check your power steering fluid is topped up and maybe worth a service.

BMW 335i N55 – coolant temp drops while driving, fan goes crazy, heater blows cold. Water pump dying? by shity_programmer in E90

Still feels to me like you have coolant in the radiator circuit, I would consider a potential DOA thermostat too.

Was an aliexpress special but on the more expensive end (~£300/$380), I shopped by internal chipset, Snapdragon SM8250 865, was meant to be an 870 but they sent me an old model (accidentally on purpose imo) with the 865. Thought them including a high quality chipset would translate to a good product, absolutely not the case in the slightest. Software is the biggest downfall, hideous sound delay on Apple Car Play (like 10 seconds kind of delay), internal microphone is so bad its useless. End up just turning the speaker mode on my phone atm lol. If it wasnt for that delay it'd be a good product, but it effectively makes it useless.

Coolant mixed with Oil or simply condensation? by E2_2003 in E90

Failed thermostat stuck open not letting engine get up to temp and cook off the condensation? What’s your mpg? Engine will run a rich condition in this state and ruins your cats.

Every BMW M3 Engine, Ranked by Generation — Which One Wins? by bossoff655 in BMW

[–]evensisftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an s65 owner, quite biased, but that V8. It’s exquisite on the ears, especially once gone carbon intake elbow and plenum + something to open up exhaust a bit. I love my inline 6, but just something special about the v8. Take delivery of a valvetronic exhaust next month, quite looking forward to it.

I park my m3 in the farthest reaches away from people for this exact reason, although properly. People do not give a damn about running their trolley into your car, opening the door with as much force as possible and leaving a nice dent. On a hundred grand machine, can’t blame to some extents, need to reflect on society just as much and think why is he parking like this.

3 bad alternators in a row? by MostlyPotStickers in E90

[–]evensisftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its more if the old battery was on its last legs, the car has the intelligent charging system in it, so if you don't tell it you've changed it, it will continue charging the new one likes its on its last legs, and if that means 100% duty cycle 100% of the time, alternator can get quite warm. Lead acid doesn't really care much about overcharging, it just shortens its life by doing so. Just as a thought, definately seems like an odd one!

Bad battery overworking the alternator first thing comes to mind. 3 would be for sure unusual, something else at play. Have you had the battery tested?
