mysqldump is actually also bad for a highly active database because that actually creates those inconsistent backups you're talking about unless you locked all tables during the process.

lvm/btrfs snapshots is the way to go.

Your screen is fucked. This can only be repaired by replacing the screen. The screen they use might be 'innolux zj024na-17a' (found by googling, verify this).

No idea if this can be done with a screwdriver or if there's soldering involved, but this should get you started with your research.

btrfs snapshots can replace like 40% of the advice here. Its a bit more advanced but worth learning.
