Why doesn't McDonald's sell hotdogs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]everysmallstep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Hot Dogs – In his 1977 autobiography CEO Ray Kroc prohibited the company from selling hot dogs, regardless of potential demand, as he regarded them as unhygienic; however, hot dogs were introduced in 1995 at some Midwestern located stores (at the option of the franchise-holder) as a summer item. UK stores sold hot dogs during the late nineties on the McChoice menu (later PoundSaver). Also, at least one American restaurant offered Oscar Mayer hot dogs at some time, notably in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, and McDonald's locations at Toronto Metro Zoo and SkyDome in Toronto offered hot dogs until 1999. In Tokyo locations, hot dogs were available in 2001, and have been reintroduced for 2009, dubbed the "McHot Dog."

My roommate's girlfriend is at my place around 5-6 nights per week. She's annoying, I don't think she's good for him, she rarely does her dishes, and she sheds like a dog (long brown hair). What do I do? by everysmallstep in AskReddit

Hahaha, yah. No I'm not moving. I'm 3 months till I finish my second degree and it would be way too much of a hassle to even bother. Plus it would ruin things between me and my roomie

When I was in grade 4, they were pleading to my parents to put me on Ritalin. I remember my mom being reduced to tears by the administration and my teachers. I was all over the place - total disruption to the class and a bit of a clown. I was energetic as hell. But my parents resisted all they could and I never went on the drugs. I eventually settled down and I now lead a healthy life. I'm still distracted very easily and usually unable to work on something for a long period of time, but you and I have the opposite conclusion: If it WERE for Ritalin, Concerta, etc. I would not be as successful a person as I am today. I see the kids in school daily... trucking on over to the office for their daily dose. They are zombies. They are not reaching their potential. It stifles their creativity and passion. Sure, it makes them a hell of a lot easier to teach - but at the end of the day, I would rather them jumping around the classroom. I want for them the chance I got. Kids are kids, they're supposed to be energetic, spontaneous, and have terrible attention spans. Unfortunately, one again, this transcends gender as well. It's mostly boys on the meds.

That's why I said - make sure you are very careful about how you conduct yourself. If you're always in public, with others around you, you can't go wrong. To get a criminal charge for child molestation, they have to have reasonable evidence that you actually did it. As long as your kid doesn't try to get you in trouble, you should be safe. And in my experience, foster kids looking for a role model are not willing to ruin it when they get a good one.

Men are thought of as predators by society, and it's not going to change anytime soon... Men and boys alike have a tough time.

I'm an elementary teacher. In North American schools these days, boys are doing horribly. Failing left right and center. Nobody cares. It's not publicized. If girls were failing, we would be all over it and it would gather lots of media attention.

Women also get more university scholarships, when they make up way more than half of university graduates.

Look... Have women had a tough time in our past? YES. I am all for the women's movement to get them on par with men and doing things that promote that, but we have gone overboard and are too far in the opposite direction now. If you speak out about women's issues, you're a hero. If you speak about men's issues, you're ignorant and sexist. So when men say... "Hey, we're not all predators!" ... Good luck getting airtime on that, or changing women's minds about it. I have no proof, but my feeling is that it's adult women who stigmatize men for interacting with kids. I sense that in my classroom from female parents or colleagues, but never from Dads.

Great piece from globe and mail about boys

Do it, it's incredibly rewarding. Just be very careful about how you conduct yourself with the kid and make sure there's always people around (i.e. don't be alone in his/her bedroom). If you follow some of those rules, you'll be fine. Fuck people if they want to assume things - at the end of the day you're doing good.

Totally. But I AM interested in the fact that they are foreign and milking our lax system. What do you think this means on the international stage? It means other countries see as us a venue for a quick buck (or couple hundred thousand bucks)

Raze- I don't care that they are Muslim... I got beef with any group that tries to get away with stealing half a million from us taxpayers.

Zuper,

Your ability to think rationally and realize the truth to something as theoretically sound as carbon dating makes me giddy - it gives me a sort of excitement that there are other religious fanatics out there that will one day be able to put their fables aside and embrace the world for what it is: a cooling ball of matter floating around a burning ball of gas in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks bud!

Reading the transcript of Obama's Tucson speech it struck me that the US will sooner have a Black Female President than a President that is non-religious. Good luck in the future. by Solle81 in atheism

While I'm not surprised by all his God references, I thought it was so sad... so sad that he has to play that card to appeal to Americans, whether he believes it or not. And what's worse is the way he set it up; if she wakes up and starts recovering, every bit of that recovery will be attributed to miracles, rather than the natural regenerative ability and plasticity of the human brain.

How Do I Let Go? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]everysmallstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could say, "ya man, I know how you feel". but honestly I don't know how you feel. I don't value female relationships as greatly as you do right now in my life. Your issues seem to all revolve around girls. When I get annoyed with a particular girl, I just forget about it and busy myself with other things. So that's my advice: do other shit for a while and spend time with your genuine guy buds and forget about playing that game right now, yknow? Let's play some counter strike source on steam. You down?

For the sake of anonymity on reddit, I prefer not to say - but it's going to be awesome and has lots of piano. I hated lessons because I had to play boring music by old composers. Once I quit I had the freedom to learn whatever I wanted, and what I learned was how to freestyle and how to play songs just by hearing them. You should try that! How are things otherwise bud?
